gameshooter09
Hello, I bought the HW45 2 days ago and fired around 300 pellets through it. However in this time the pistol seems to be very inaccurate (its all over a standard target). I've tried shooting freestanding, and resting my arm to prevent movement, however none of this seems to help. I've purchased a Hawke Sport Red Dot, could it be something to do with this? Also once or twice its made small groupings, however if I move an extra 3 or so meters back from the target its consistently inaccurate again. Any ideas guys? Thanks Edited January 1, 2010 by gameshooter09

gameshooter09
I guess i could. But I'm thinking 'is it me?' 'Am I doing something wrong?' Or could it be to do with the red dot loosing its zero because of the recoil? Thanks
Ali-C
Don't give up, pistols are hard to shoot at the best of times. Bear in mind that as it is a springer you need a light, consistant hold to allow it to recoil the same way each time. Just keep practicing. Nice choice of pistol btw. gameshooter09
Okay, just been in back garden with the pistol... It was shooting a lot better, getting about 1.75 inch groups at around 10 meters. However after around 20 shots the red dot started playing up, it didn't work on certain brightness levels. This happened to me before and I'm guessing this could be because of the recoil? I've decided I'm going to take the red dot back again and see if I can exchange it in for something different. Are there any recommended red dots / pistol scopes that can withstand the recoil? Thanks
YROCK
try it on the lower power cock. The recoil is less and should give better results
snipper
also it would be worth trying some other pellets .......... you'd be surprised
gameshooter09
thanks for your thoughts, I will try the lower power cock tomorrow morning. Regarding the pellets, I'm using the air arms field, these should give good results, shouldn't they?

Carlisle
Lose the read dot sight. The hw45 has high quality open sights on it. Who needs a red dot on a pistol anyway? With my hw45 (.177) I can hit tin cans at 30m+ almost every shot. 1.75 inch groupings at 10m is not bad for someone new to this gun. It takes a little while to learn the right hold. Like others have said, keep a loose grip. The fleshy part of the thumb and third finger should do most of the work in holding it up-the other fingers are just along for the ride, so to speak. With some practice, you should be able to cut an inch off that group in no time. I doubt there's anything wrong with your hw45. What cali is it? Thumpersniper
if it's .22 you might have the wrong size of pellet? i dont know with the wheirach but i had a Tempest as a kid and i think it took 5.56mm pellets when my other guns took 5.55, or the other way around i dont remember. Made all the difference even though it still wasnt that accurate, but a lot of fun!! SP
