Robby22
Dont just let them get on with! Get plate numbers keep calling the plods, and get a "farm watch" sorted with the surrounding land owners-they soon get sick of it when plod gets there soon as theyve just got out! As said previously-dont go down violence route unless your a bit tapped! Ive seen superglue in locks, and removed sump plugs before....IF you have to resort to that type of thing! Cranfield
The sensible answer to this problem is to call the Police. If you are not satisfied with their response, then complain to the Chief Constable and keep doing so until they take notice. This will probably be more effective if the actual Landowner makes the complaint. In my area we have "Operation Orchard" where not only do the Police quickly attend any call regarding dogs or poaching (usually involves the ARU plus helicopter on occasions), they are also proactive in stopping vehicles seen in certain areas. To take matters into your own hands risks putting you on the wrong side of the law (remember your gun certificates) and getting involved in acts of retribution. Quite frankly it is not worth it. al4x
The funny thing with this is once coursing got made Illegal then we had plod all over the place looking for people doing it, still got the signs on posts all over the most at risk areas. Strange really when the characters round us have been doing it illegally all the time as its always on land they shouldn't be on.
shakin stevens
we had problems, a few times we put the lamp on them and kept our distance this was always with the land owner he likes to get out and see whats going on. made his blood boil because you can see the wheel marks all the way through till the combine came out. they still kept coming on and making a mess of fields, so he got a jcb in and dug round all his land, and most of his land then had to be through main gates at the house. i think the old poacher one for the pot has long gone! these chaps are geared up for a fight. The problem with 'do as you likeys' is they have nothing to lose whilst you most likely have a lot to lose (including your life). We had a special task force operation in a particularly bad part of Suffolk some 2-3 years back to round up all those space wasters and sort them once and for all. confiscated vehicles, goods etc etc and as usual police found other offences to charge them with. No further problems. As C says let police deal with it and if they don't/won't make a fuss at CC level until they do. The laws are there to deal with the problem it's a case of getting someone to use them.
fortune82
Again thanks for the replies. Some good advice although I aint one to fight as my job would be in serious danger! Some of the others have tried some "interesting methods" which seems to have put them off for the time being! Shall be interesting to see if they return or not. gixer1
Get a strong wire strop (similar to a winch rope) wait until you see them one night and let them leave the vehicle, while they are gone attach the strop to the back axle and make sure you leave enough coiled up under the car to allow them to gain some speed, take a spade make a line in the dirt away from the car and push the cable end into the soil around where it leaves the underside of the car (so it cannot be seen)and attach the free end to a telegraph pole/strainer post solid object etc..... get to a distance with binoculars and watch the show.... either a) the vehicle will be damaged B ) the telegraph pole will be pulled down .....in either case call the police to let them know what you saw as you were "driving past" to do this you must be sure you have the correct vehicle...
