Lloyd90
I noticed just now s small lump on Skye's chest. Its actually very similar to a smartie is size and shape. Looks a little bit red but she shows no signs of pain or discomfort when it is touched/poked. Anyone have any ideas what it is ? Im a bit worried
deeksofdoom
It's more than likely a boil and it will go away itself.
Lloyd90
Been to the pet shop to get food and frontline n worming pills. The woman who owns it has a lab and says hers gets the same alot. She says hers gets thorns in her when down the dunes ( I live next to sand dunes/nature reserve.) and you clean it up and it should go away. So I cleaned it all up, the scab on top came off and it bled a bit. I cleaned it up and used some TCP on it to get it clean. Hopefully should be gone soon. Then gave her a pigs ear for sitting through it without even moving lol
Mec 9000
Could be a Histiocytoma which is common in dogs. usually a benign tumour that clears up given time but can sometimes need surgical removal. Google Histiocytoma. Gerry

Gerry I did google it. Doesn't look like that I dont think But I will be keeping a close eye on it. Thanks Also hers has a scab on top. Does that mean its not a Histiocytoma ? Or still could be ? Mec 9000
They can ulcerate, best to have the vet look at it, could be anything or nothing, could be the head of a tick left in. Gerry
kyska
I think there is at least one vet on here, I'm a VN. Being a female, is the lump anywhere near her mammary glands? if its near the chest, check properly as they can have these glands very high up. How old is she? Recently in season? Recently had a litter? Best bet if you're worried go see your vet. If its red, hot and scabbed chances are it s a wound of traumatic origin, although small lumps and bumps can become something more sinister if they have been there for an amount of time? Its impossible to give any good advice without looking and examining the animal, which is the job for your vet and your wallet . Lloyd90
Its about half way between her front legs n get stomach. Its red n like I said the size of a smartie. Will clean it again later and leave it for a bit. If its still there in a few days will get it checked out

If its near to her teats, go see your vet tomorrow if you can. Advice: Use brine if you are going to clean it at all, don't use antiseptics or alcohol. I'd advise to leave it alone if its not giving her any grief which it seems it isn't. Putting water, salt, TCP whatever will encourage her to lick it and the granulating tissue (scabs etc) is a natural important stage of healing which she'll remove by licking, by her doing this you could end up with a common but awkward conditon called Lick Granuloma. If shes not licking it leave it. Edited January 14, 2010 by kyska
Lloyd90
I just checked. Its much closer to her front legs than her stomach. Its on her ribs for sure. Will continue to monitor it!

Lloyd90
It shrunk right down to nothing in a few days n the scab was left. Now its almost completely gone. Does this mean it was nothing ?
al4x
yes, probably a slight wound that got infected, but usually they will heal up the dog cleans it regularly and as long as they don't get bigger you're usually ok. Its just a case of keeping an eye on things, one things for sure if i took mine to the vets at every lump and cut during the beating season I'd be very poor
