utectok
shooting clays with gamebore 21gms and it seemed something weird happened the cart case was all melted and the breech was full of bits of unburnt propellant. The wad was jammed in the barrel it did spit out the lead and the clay was chipped but all in all very odd any ideas how it happened? It was quite hard to squeeze the wad out of the barrel with a rod but the gun was fine and I shot of another 50 no bother. any thoughts ?? Floating Chamber
Seen it before, many times! The biggest culprits among others are: Very low powder charge. Bad primer.

dunganick
Ive seen it once before. There was a light charge. The gun went phutt and a the lead just rolled out of the barrel and the wad got stuck in the barrel.
njc110381
That's weird. I've never heard of the case melting?
al4x
that sounds like it slow burned so created enough heat to melt the case

vulpicide
I was out after foxes one day I was stop gun at the bottom of a gully I had shot one fox when I heard the terriers baying again. I watched as a lge dog fox ran down the outside of the sparse hedge to my left as the fox drew level with me I brought the gun to my shoulder slipped of the safety and swung through (3shot semi auto) but as I pulled the trigger there was no bang I kept the gun to my shoulder and I thought I could hear a fizzling sound then the gun fired it didnt feel right but It cycled and I managed to get two shots off and killed the fox. Thinking about it when my mate came I realised that I'd had a hangfire rather than a misfire, I had a lucky escape there was only a fraction of a second between me pulling the trigger and getting the bang but I had two terriers tied just in front of me thank goodness I did'nt lower the gun just as it went off.I'm in my fifties and I've been shooting since I was ten thats the first and hopefully the last time I get one of those. Just goes to prove you must make sure that you ALWAYS point your gun in a safe direction.
utectok
took some scrubbing to get the melted plastic out of the chamber though !!
winchester6500
That's weird. I've never heard of the case melting? mmm it might if the power did not go of with a flash and was left in the case at slower burn.
njc110381
With no pressure powder burns like a roman candle. I lit half a tub of it once because I'd tipped another powder into the tub when I emptied my thrower (stupid boy!). A mate assured me it wouldn't flash and he was right, it burned for ten or fifteen seconds. I don't know how that would happen in the confines of the barrel though? Bad primer seems the obvious answer.
