2.8 SWB Pajero

Ladies and Gents

I have been offered a 2.8 swb Paj for £400, the only problem is that the cooling system is pressurizing and throwing the water out of the expansion tank, the guy said he has had the water tested for exhaust gasses etc and it comes up clean.

Would you chaps take a punt on it? If it tuned out the lump was totally knackered could I get my cash back breaking it?

It has good Alloys and tyres body is good in inside look clean.

The other option is, I do the head gasket on my old LWB Vitara and put new sills on it?

Cheers

he's talking bull, sounds like classic head gasket / cracked head symptoms on one of these, if you're handy a new bare head is @£200 plus the gasket bits and would see you up and running again. as you say you could break it for more but depends if you want the agro

Does it do it only when hot or does it do it when cold as well.

If it does it when cold as well it`s usually a head gasket.

If you've got another £500 to spare on repairs then go for it.

I`v a big 2800 fan and currently have a swb and basically they are bomb proof if you just change the oil twice a year.

Spares are every where though.

Best place is MILNERS OFF ROAD in Derbyshire. :good:

Want better advice then log on to the PAJERO OWNERS CLUB and ask the boys on there, they know it all .

Cheers Gents,

I am not sure if it does it when hot or cold, I did not ask :good:

I did have a quick look on the Pajero site, there seemed a few problems with water systems but I could not see anything related to the expansion tank, I guess I should join up and ask.

How weird, have spent the entire evening on the pocuk site diagnosing the same problem with my 2.5.

Came up with the same answers that you lot have given, either head cracked or gasket. If it's the gasket that's not too bad, if it's the head then I think I will be looking for another farm truck.

walk away they are prone to cracking heads by the time you source a head get it skimmed and pressure tested get new head set and bolts new timing belt new balance shaft belt [ assuming the tensioners and idler pullies are ok ] and add in the £400 for the truck you,d get a good runner for less

Had a quick look on line and I can't find a second hand head, new bear heads are £300+ and after asking a few more questions it seems the guy has been throwing cash at it for months, replaced suspension on opposing corners was the last thing? I get the feeling it could be a money pit :good:
