MC
Guys, A little help is required. I went out for a couple of hours decoying pigeons this afternoon using my Xtrema. It was a bit slow and I had 1 pigeon come into the decoys and I killed it cleanly. Another bird came in and I stood up to shoot. I pulled the trigger and there was a click. I thought it was a misfire so I waited a minute or so and then drew the bolt back. There was no cartridge in the chamber. I racked the bolt again and it loaded. I stuck a cartridge in the mag and settled down in the hide again. The next bird came in and I fired missing it with the first shot and I went to pull the trigger again and click nothing. THis time the cartridge was half in the chamber and had stopped. At this point I emptied the gun, then loaded it with 3 shells and fired them accross the field. Everything worked fine. I loaded it again and fired and it worked fine, then it didn't cycle again. I have just stripped it right down and thoroughly cleaned it so it is spotless paying special attention to the gas chamber and piston. While cleaning this area I noticed a green rubber O ring. Should this ever need renewing? It looked in good condition and considering the gun is over 6 years old and has never missed a beat it was off putting to say the least. I finished the afternoon early having shot 3 birds. I also had my first ever misfire with a lyalvale cartridge. So today was a bad day all round. Any advice would be appreciated. BlaserF3
I watched a video on you tube about the O ring coming loose and the service bloke recommended gluing it in place as if it comes loose it creates a head space problem then the gun will not fire. I cannot find it just now
MC
Get a Hatstand. You know it makes sense I knew someone would say that, however it has given 6 years of faultless service not 6 weeks of problems before taking it back I watched a video on you tube about the O ring coming loose and the service bloke recommended gluing it in place as if it comes loose it creates a head space problem then the gun will not fire.I cannot find it just now I can't see how this o ring can come loose as it sits in a recess within the gas chamber and the piston seats into it. I have given everything a damn good clean and I will try it tomorrow

chrispti
Just out of interest, is it an Xtrema 1 or
MC
Thanks for that but that is not the O ring I meant. The one I meant is in the gas chamber off the bottom of the barrel where the piston is. It is green in colour and sits in a recessed groove. It is a Xtrema 1 but there is no difference between mine and the Xtrema 2 other than the kick off pad on the stock Edited February 11, 2010 by MC

The part your referring to does not exist on the xtrema 2.

Agreed, the Xtrema 2 has a metal piston ring type assembly and the inside of the gas chamber is completely smooth, no O-ring. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...mp;#entry614482 Edited February 12, 2010 by alexm

Have a look here then mate. I'll think you'll find apart from the kick off they are identical Extrema

My gun is exactly the same as the one you have posted a photo of yet is 6 years old and is an Extrema
chrispti
Really? Have a look here then mate. I'll think you'll find apart from the kick off they are identical Extrema 2 Yes really. Do a search or phone GMK's workshop and they will list all of the differences. According to them the gun was completely redesigned from the ground up. I have never seen the part you are referring to on my Xtrema 2 mate.
MC
So the exploded diagrams that BERETTA supply from there website are wrong are they? Believe me the O ring is there on a Extrema 1 or 2. The Myth that the extrema 2 was a complete redesign is exactly that, a myth. The only difference between my gun and an extrema 2 is the kick off systen and mine says AL391 Extrema on the side and a Extrema 2 has Extrema 2 on the side. My gun is exactly the same as the one that Markm posted in his thread and it was bought 2 years before the extrema 2 came out.
chrispti
Thats what I was told by GMK along with a list of modifications mate.
MC
The gas chamber and piston in Alexm's post is the same as mine, the o ring is further in towards the front of the gun where you can see the narrow slots by the spring. It is recessed in the metal part that is welded to the barrel.

henry d
My Xtrema2, Alex`s old one, does have an "O" seal, just beyond(towards the muzzle) the gas ports and well recessed and therefore easy to miss. As for whether this is the problem......... dunno, sorry **EDIT** Photo added
