Have a BRNO 17hmr 452 from new. Very reliable, very accurate. Price wise not much below it in new price range. Barrel length is 20" mostly so that it is easy to use from a vehicle.

Good starter rifle, downside is that it will make a bit more noise than the .22 and ammunition is a bit more expensive.

If I had to buy again I think I would get the SAKO heavy barrelled walnut, only because its so similar to my .22 finnfire which I love to bits.

I have the Anschutz 1517 thumbhole .17 which has been an excellent rifle although they are getting a bit pricey for a rabbit gun these days, I can't remember anyone having an HMR that wasn't accurate so the best thing you can do is work out your budget and go and have a look and a feel-remember you want £30-£60 for a moderator, about the same for some bullets and then a scope and mount and maybe a bipod and case :good:

CZ Brno all the way mate, I have the 452 style and it never fails to impress me. They are a fantastic rifle, won't cost you the earth and accurate too. Also the .17 hmr is a brilliant little round, it is louder than the .22lr by a fair way but it doesn't seem to bother the bunnies to much they just have a quick look around and just get back to their business!

Good luck with the application,

I can only speak for the CZ452 Varmint in 17HMR as thats the only 17HMR that I have owned or used. They are brilliant value for money, reliable, well made and very accurate. The only thing that I would change now if I had the chance is the barrel - Mine has a 20 inch heavy barrel and, given the chance, I would "look" at a 20 inch sporting barrel just to make it that little bit lighter to carry around.

Even so I am delighted with this marvelous little rifle!!!! :good::hmm::lol:

Its all according what you have to spend out fella. But if you want a great accurate gun which will not cost you the earth. Then opte for the Cz range, they are a cracking little rilfe which comes in a variation of styles and barrel lengths. I got the 452 american style with a 16" barrel. And i'm shooting sub 1" groups at 100yrds with mine. Rabbits up to and a little over 150yrds. Ammo may be a little more expensive then .22lr but the extra protencial with the hmr will ake all the difference in the long run. Slap a sak mod on her which is another good bit of kit and is cheap for the service it does an you'l have yourself a right little beauty ready for the field. But what ever you choose fella, i hope you enjoy it and have a lot of success.

All best

I'm with Frenchieboy and Lez

I have the CZ 452 Varmint with the 16" barrel and walnut stock, supplied by Edgar Bros, it certainly does the business on the Bunnies

If you decide on the SM11 moderator from Edgar bros, make sure it has the upgraded stainless steel baffles :hmm:
