MPT1
I personally think it makes sense to insure against your dog doing harm. What do you think? Sorry if this is already being discussed Edited March 9, 2010 by MPT1
Mungler
Good idea but completely unenforcable without massive government investment
MJN
IMO the people this is aimed at wont get insured anyway, a bit like handguns, take them off legal people , then the illegals can do as they like, if you know what I mean. M.
al4x
most of us are insured under house insurance, so likely end will be a huge amount of beaureacracy affecting law abiding citizens and the one its aimed at do **** all. I can't see any government having the balls to say get found without insurance and we'll put your dog down.
garyb
An outgoing Labour government - clutching at straws.
MPT1
Not that dificult to enforce, a gun can be concealed, it's a bit more dificult to conceal a dog. In Portugal the maximum length of a lead is one mtre. Any longer and it's a 500 euro fine.
al4x
so you'd have coppers out checking every dog owner they saw for insurance? realistically were they clued up they'd have them all chipped and on a database but they can't organise an NHS computer records system so why should they be able to do the same with dogs. Its all a load of bullocks
reaper6
The goverment abandoned the dog licence because it was not inforceable and nobody bothered to buy one even though it was only 37p......so how are they going to enforce dog insurance for all dogs at 20-100 pounds a time............utter madness...as a earlier thread said Labour clutching at straws.... Ozzy Fudd
everyone thinks insurance is the answer to everything, when in fact its the cause of most problems - its been argued that this whole health and safety culture came about not because people actually cared about being hurt, but because insurers were trying to cover themselves against big claims everytime someone stubbed their toe although i insure my dogs, i would never want it to be made compulsary - how long would it be til there was all sorts of daft rules appearing, all because some scumbag thought he could make a few thousand by getting bitten by a pekingese!
