Wookie
With the onset of the lovely warm weather (yeah right!) and all things spring, Mrs. Wookie and I have been thinking of getting something for the decking that will keep us warm, but also allow u to do a bit of home smoking of things like cheese and various meats. Has anyone had any experience with a combined chiminea/smoker before and would feel brave enough to recommend one, or should I be looking at making something that would do the smoking job and just attaching it to the top of a normal chiminea when I feel the need to smoke some trout/venison? Dunkield
I caved into pressure this time last year an bought a chimenea, thinking it would just sit there get wet and then crack when we got the first decent frost. I couldn't have been more wrong, we must have been sat out there 3-4 evenings a week in the summer Ours is just heater though we don't cook on it. bi9johnny
hi you can cook on them mine used to have a barbie tray that went inside and rested on the opening and i smoked fish by hanging it in the chimney and just smoldering dust in it.... likewise use it as a heater and go on the bay and get a proper smoker for £29 off ronnie sunshines they are cool
pavman
how about you send the kids off on an overnight with friends and Mrs Wookie slips on some hot ann sommers gear that should generate some heat, and it will offset your carbon footprint Edited March 17, 2010 by pavman
Wookie
Steady on chap! One's British and will not have such talk bandied around! I did think about one of those dinky smokers, but the idea of having something that was a little more impressive crossed our minds for when we have people around. You know "just popping out to get the smoked salmon..." sort of thing. I guess I could make do with the Weber, a length of A/C hose and a large box though. If nothing else, it would be more "me". Just like drilling through a central heating pipe twice.
henry d
I would imagine that a clay chiminea will be too hot to smoke sucessfully, mine certainly would be, however they go work well when you want to "Tandoor" meat and you do get a light smokey flavour too. Doc Holliday
After going through a couple of the clay type chimineas I've resolved to getting a cast iron one this year. I like to have a roaring fire in the back garden in the cool summer evenings. Probably didn't help setting the fire off with a pile of wood as high a midgets ****. Anyway Wookie, is this the kind of thing you could be looking for? http://www.gardensandhomesdirect.co.uk/sho...re.asp?id=00189 Personally I'm going for one with a smaller chimney as I have no need to over compensate.
