Kennel cough worth every penny!

My lab had the cough just after she turned one and she was ****'d for a fortnight with a horse cough and terrible lethargy. Was really unpleasent as she couldn't go out and got wound up and began to chew things again. SHes had it(the jab since and (touch wood) has avoided it(the cough for the alst 2 years.

Edit: it made sense in my head.

mine hasn't had the kennel cough jab but has had KC once and its not pleasant but not normally too bad in a healthy dog. Jabs wise I tend to have them vaccinated for the first couple of years anually then have them every other year. There is lots of debate about how long the jabs last and how much is profiteering by both drug companies and vets. There are risks associated with vacinating so its a bit of a catch 22 there is a lot of information out there and lots of differing views but increasing numbers of vets are suggesting every year isn't necessary. I have also had this backed up by a relative who has worked for two of the major vaccine producers but obviously their research on how long the antibodies lasted don't tend to get published if they show you don't need to use their products as much

Thanks guys!!!

I would never put any of my dogs in a kennel. I have a friend who looked after my pointers on the rare occasions that we have been on holiday. We have people cueing up to look after freddy too.

I have to admit, that I have had a few dogs over the years and usually only vaccinate then for the first 2-3 years and then dont.

Maybe i have been lucky but other than an arguement with some barbed wire, indie has never had a problem, freddy is cool and poor old boo died of a stroke( what can you do avbout that!!)

I have just been quoted £450 a year from the kennel club to insure purdey...and on that reckoning Indie would have cost me £5625 in insurance yet in reality I paid £350 for the op to sort out her wounded chest!! Bloody rip off!!!!

EE get a pet plan quote and do insure to 18 months then think about banking the premiums. When young you should get an idea whether they are going to have any genetic / predisposed issues and also its when they are most likely to run off and have an accident. Once trained that should be less likely,
