Paddy Galore!
Well done chap! I see i'm going to have to get some practice in asap. longest shot i've taken was with my sako 22lr, 230 paces at a rabbit, i got his mate first who was about 10yds closer. i would roughly guess this to be about 180yds. (fairly long hay meadow) so my legs couldn't stretch fully.

steve_b_wales
not wanting to start a row but whats the point of a magpie at 218 yds......... i just dont get it.... was out with dog yesturday counted couple hundred rough yds,,,,,,,,, tried to picture a magpie sitting on the ground other than just to brag its kinda pointless.....not having a go as i only shoot shotties........ Millrace. I was not BRAGGING about shooting the magpie, but merely adding my 'best successful long range shots' to the original post. There is plenty of POINT in shooting a magpie at any distance, with any firearm, as long as it is safe to do so, and I have never taken any shot where it could be unsafe. Plus, you have to consider that when I shot the magpie, I was looking through my S & B Zenith scope at x10 power. At that magnification, a magpie seems pretty close. And, if I can hit a magpie at 218 yards, then a fox would pose no problem. You say that you only 'shoot shotties', which is fine. I don't know if you have had any experience with rifles at all, I have, for over 38 years. Maybe if you get a chance to try it, you will understand a bit more. Good luck with your shooting. Steve. millrace
like i said im not having a go......where im coming from is i like rough shooting wildfowl etc....ie the fun/enjoyment for me is covering the ground working the dog and getting a shot if it comes my way so the idea of shooting something at 200 yds,,,,,when yes i know there is a lot of skill involved in many instances there is no "hunting" involved thats the bit i was meaning that i dont get,,, i know people who are cracking rifle shots and they tell the stories,,driving along spoting target out the window 250 yds dead...etc etc i can assure ive got no probs with vermin/pest controll!!!!! i just like to give every thing i shoot at a sporting chance.....lol it is all about what every individual enjoys about there own aspect of country sports i shoot with guys who would never join me up and down some of the places i go as they also just dont get why i do that.......
