Lunn
Hi Going to send off for my SGC in a few days so I want to know which guns I should be looking at. Im looking to spend £400 - £600 on a decent 12g O/U but I may stretch to £700 if I see something I really like. Id just like to know what you guys think would be the all round best gun at this kind of price it would be much appreciated. Ive seen a nice Bettinsoli Diamond Sporter in a shop for £550 is there any faults with this gun? Thanks
Paddy Galore!
Hi lunn, there are quite a few topics on here about dodgy betinsollis, i'd steer clear if i were you. your budget is pretty healthy, so look for winchester 101, miroku, beretta, or browning for around £500 - £700. £400 will get you a clean lanber, there are plenty of guns available in your price range, good luck! spence
Hi Lunn, I was in a almost exactly the same position (returning to shooting) until this morning, same budget £500-£700 etc. But sorry to say I could not find anything in the Browning, Beretta, Miroku group for that money in the area (Herts/Beds/Bucks/Northants), the odd one but they were were chopped about (mismatch stock/barrels etc.). The entry point seems to be £800-£900 mark. I missed out on a couple of Winchester 101's, don't dither they'll be gone. Looked at the Bettinsoli but it didn't fell quite right, also Webley & Scott 912, again cheap but felt it. Neither were anywhere near fitting. But what I did find and there are a few about was a year old Lamber Sporting Deluxe for £650. Looks and feels more expensive also came up to the shoulder nicely. Just got back from it's first outing and posted a 27/40, which I thought was not too bad after not shooting for 6 or so year with a couple of difficult (as described by the squad leader) stands. Anyway good luck, keep ringing round the shops as the good stuff seems to come in and go very quickly at the moment. Also have you budgeted for all the extras? S. tweedledee
yeah i`d advise a good clean miroku or winchester 101. great handling guns and will outlast a lot ot cheaper brand guns mass produced today.
Edward
Buy a gun that fits, dont buy it just because its a berreta and not have it fit then its a waste of money. I had my heart set on a B rizzini something and when I tryed it it didnt feel right, in the end I ended up with a mint Lincoln premier If you havent already, have a look on guntrader
HDAV
There was a FC Miroku going for £350 at a local club chap didn't have it with him when i was last there and not been for a few weeks best go down to local clay club and see if they have a members for sale board. Normally on smaller clubs not the big grounds they always knoe someone selling a gun and you can try before you buy which you cant at most dealers or private sales. If you havent applied for SGC yet your loking at 6-12 weeks wait before you can buy one anyway so i would suggest having has many lessons as you can and see whats out and bide your time
spence
Agree with the ask around thing. Typically, after buying a gun yesterday found out last night that an acquaintance has a 686s up for sales at £

Thanks I was in exactly the same position as the OP and had a shortlist comprising new and old 12 bores in the same budget. I was all set to give a shop some money but one question to the chap who runs our clay shoot uncovered another member selling a Lanber under twelve months old. Got a great gun for about 60% of the original purchase price and we're both happy. IMO the Bettinsoli looks good but isn't quite as robust as the Lanber for your entry level guns.
