Dekers
Ok, been out with a pal today who has about £80 sat on top of his Parker Hale .243 and is wondering why his groups are far from ideal?? Ammo, barrel, crown, mod and cleaning are not issues, (checked by Neil Mckillop last week) and everything is tight so we are pretty sure the scope internals are not up to the job. Fact is money is tight and he must have crazy high mag (well, crazy high to me anyway) ...24x at least, hopefully starting about 4x, but starting 6x minimum, there is no option of fixed here! £200-£250 MAX..he was hoping he could get away with another £60 or £80 but I have advised a little more is probably required. HELP...what on earth fits the bill, reticle isn't too much of an issue, and the truth is not much is far over 100yards anyway (perhaps it will be if he can make the gun work a bit further). DAYLight shooting primarily!! Any ideas please??
Frenchieboy
If he really is adament that his budget is only around £100 then maybe he should look at J.S.Ramsbottoms and look at the JSR 6-24X50 IR Scope. I have used one on a 22-250 and it held its zero well with pretty good quality optics for the price. I certainly didn't have any problems with mine for day time shooting on higher mag or on the lamp with lower mag! Having said that I now use lower mag scopes (Only around 8 -9 times mag) to save any "target aquisition" problems that you might get with higher magnification, especially on the lamp! I was trying to avoid this as the JSR scopes can, and do have their moments, and optically I think they are very good.....but he already has the JSR 6-24x44 on it...the second...he rattled the first to death, and this in not looking good anymore...budget is £200-£250 MAX after I bent his arm above his head!! His Parker Hale does seem a bit sharp, much more bite and agression about it than my Tikka .243!
Mr_Logic
Why does he want 24x on a rifle to shoot deer? I will have words with him!!

Mr_Logic
He's going to struggle at that price point... 4.5-18x56 falcon is about the best I can think of.

I've twisted his arm on money, so perhaps more physiotherapy is required about the Magnification!!

Dekers
Nighteater 6x24x56.........cracking scopes for the money.. shaun In principle I would tend to agree, but for some reason his .243 is a bit harsh, I'm not convinced it could deal with the bang, he appears to have already destroyed 2 x JSR on it!! Dekers
Tell him to save up for a Schmidt & Bender 8x56! The budget is £250, ABSOLUTE max, that was like pulling teeth, if you see one down there can you give me a shout... Cheers!!
al4x
tell him to get some open sights, will be better at his budget than mucking arround with more cheap scopes that he'll keep breaking.
Loki
Hi You might want to consider a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 (I think) which should fit the finance - especially as the SGC have them at around the £140.00 mark (for a £300+ scope). In my opinion this is more than adequate for deer stalking and foxing at 'normal ranges'........ Cheers

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x42 with Ballistic reticle, parallax adjustment etc. only ever been sat atop my Daystate X2 air rifle which has had less than 100 pellets through it and as such is in as new condition, still got the box somewhere. He can have that for £200 if he likes.... let me know if interested.
gixer1
I had an edgar brothers on mine before the swaro and it was a good enough scope, the only time you notice the difference is at dusk as dark fades, i would run out of sight and my friend would get an extra 1/2 or 1/4 of an hour.... But for stalking the EB was fantastic and took a beating...
