al4x
Just reading there may be a serious issue if lead gets banned that it may be difficult to have a deer legal round in .243, anyone know if this is fact or fiction
Dekers
Just reading there may be a serious issue if lead gets banned that it may be difficult to have a deer legal round in .243, anyone know if this is fact or fiction No idea but you can see where they are coming from...BUT..if..maybe, when???...and will we have a propellant that shifts them faster by then, and will the Government have realised you don't actually need 1700ft lb to stop a deer by then.....too many ifs!! BIG 5
Interesting point. Could it be that the round be substituted with tungsten or bismuth etc and the propellant adjusted accordingly. If so its going to make the job expensive. I bet the Army will still use lead rounds.

Windknot
You can get Barnes X-Bullets in .243, and I believe you can get factory loaded ammo with these bullets too. Google GS Bullets for some more all copper bullets.
al4x
Interestingly it looks like they are only 85 grains so would you be able to make the legal minimum power?
Vipa
This is one of the reasons I'm waivering on my calibre requests...... 6.5x55 is a little more 'no lead' future proof than .243!
Vince Green
All copper bullets work fine, the hollow point just goes a lot deeper. However there is an issue with accuracy. many rifles are a lot more fussy than with ordinary bullets. To make the same weight the bullet has to be a lot longer, about half as much again. that causes problems with stabilising in the rifling. Twist becomes more important. Slow twists don't suit copper bullets. Edited May 1, 2010 by Vince Green
