kyska
Hi All, After a lot of reading I think I need to replace the scope on my hmr, I need a higher mag I think. Reason being I have a fantastic 7x50IR meopta on it, its beautiful, but the reticle dot is 1" at 100 yards and I'm shooting further now and only shoot rabbits with it, so obviously the 'dot' is now bigger than a rabbits kill zone. Its perfect for the fox/deer man, the clarity is amazing, friends with S&B's, doctors etc have commented on it. I have a FAC air, which it would suit, but without offending airgunners, it seems a bit of a waste to have on an airgun as the ranges I use the airgun the scope doesn't have chance to do itself justice. Should I sell it, and buy a second hand higher mag scope for the HMR and maybe a bit left over would help fund a shotgun? Keep it as I have a slot for a foxing gun (which I imagine, if I buy one will only be used ad hoc)? Take it off the rifle and buy another anyway but keep it? Its the first bit of decent glass I've bought, reluctant to sell, but reality is telling me to do something! killer_pigeon
worth keeping scope if you have .22LR or foxing rifle, otherwise sell it on I needed a 16 mag minimum for my HMR in the end but this also may be due to my failing eyesight also
kyska
worth keeping scope if you have .22LR or foxing rifle, otherwise sell it on I needed a 16 mag minimum for my HMR in the end but this also may be due to my failing eyesight also Thanks, I don't have the .22 anymore, that was what is was on initially, the fox rifle is pipeline at the minute, just had the variation for a .204. I might post it up and see what interest there is, it a superb fox scope. (You're in Leicestershire, anywhere near LE12?)
al4x
yup sell it and funnily enough something cheaper will be better, I've a 4-16x50 nikko sterling on mine and it works well. With your 204 you could use it though so depends on funds and what you can get for it second hand
Paddy Galore!
if it were mine i'd keep it,you never know what you might want later on, and good glass is expensive, even more expensive if you sell it second hand and later want or need another one. My scope This is it, been on the gun for about 4 months, immaculate, still got the box and all. Anyone have any idea what I should think about selling for? Paddy Galore!
i reckon 2/3-3/4 of the price you paid, if it's nearly new and mint then go for that. What shotgun are you gonna get?
al4x
put it on ebay rather than here, simply because decent scopes make good money on there at the moment, otherwise on here I would say you'd be lucky to get £

GRAM, thats a good question! I know nothing at all about them, I need a light gun because I walk for miles. I've shot a 20 bore on a clay shoot and did really well, I like the idea of a 20, but I'm a rifle man so am trying to learn very quickly! I'll buy another for the hmr and store the meopta I think. Anyone who knows of a decent scope going let me know please! I'll post in the wanted. Beardo
keep the Meopta as you won't get a great price for it second hand and it's too good a scope to let go.

Paddy Galore!
depends what the ret is, i know it says illuminated but most of the stuff i've seen is a heavy duplex. there's an edgar bros optimate just gone up in the sales section, they're a good quality scope, or i've got an MTC 4-16x 42 which i'm selling on soon, 30mm tube, side focus, illuminated xmas tree ret, metal flip up covers. Bushnell are a nice quality scope tho.

Thanks GRAM , I'll have a look, and thanks for the heads up about your scope for sale, but I'm afraid I'd prefer to remove my eyes with a spoon than line the pockets of MTC! I'll go and see if I can find a bushnell in a local gun shop and have a look see. Edited May 6, 2010 by kyska
al4x
the bushnell does look a bit of a billy bargain so probably best to find another to look at quick, those special offers at the Sportsman don't tend to last long
Beardo
you'll miss the clarity of the Meopta though.
al4x
yup but it is "only" on an HMR personally I find its ok because you're normally either lamping or shooting in daylight rather than when you really need a decent scope such as foxing at last light. Dunkield
Have a good look whatever you go for, under your normal shooting conditions if you can. Meopta's are very clear for the money, so as NB says you don't want to go back wards. I don't what range you normally shot at, or how good your eyes are, but you can get non illuminated 7x50 Meopta's with a very fine reticle. Thanks, I have been shooting at no more than 100 yards, but as I've got mroe confident I've had the chance to take longer shots, the Meopta's dot covers 1" at 100 yards, its brilliant for rangefinding, but any further and I feel I'm guessing a bit at rabbits. Its such a beautiful scope, the clarity is amazing, picks up light so well and am worried I'll buy something else and be dissapointed. I do have a .204 slot to be filled very soon, so maybe it'll do for that, even at 200 yards the dot is 2 inches, thats tight enough for fox isn't it?
