weejase
I have £8500 to spend on a 4x4 and I`m stumped I really want a landy defender but I`m not mechanically minded and would like a low maintenance vehicle. I have a jimny just now that I use for shooting but would like another 4x4 for everyday use and for shooting If need be I love the size and shape of the defender and the fact It has 3 seats up front with room for my gear at the back. I`m not into discovery`s as they are mahoosive looking so a swb would be a must. Any advice jase.
docholiday
Yup for 6500 you could buy my defender 110 r reg but only 55000 miles, great machine, I am selling to buy a new one you know it makes sense bit like marmite love em or hate em. me I love them doc edit spelling Edited May 6, 2010 by docholiday
al4x
you get a very tidy shogun sport for that, or most versions of pickups which if you are going newer will be a lot less on road tax. Not much about SWB unfortunately at that sort of budget unless you buy a far cheaper motor. Personally a defender is ok but not ideal for everyday use I'd have one if it was just an off road vehicle I just like my luxuries like proper heating for day to day use

al4x
the problem in a way with landies is you have to pay an awful lot for an old vehicle, good for resale but your money gets you into 5 year old Jap motors but only 10 year old landrovers. docholiday
the problem in a way with landies is you have to pay an awful lot for an old vehicle, good for resale but your money gets you into 5 year old Jap motors but only 10 year old landrovers. Thats true and one of the reasons for buying, providing it has a mot and running you will sell, mine has not lost any value during the last two years, Thats a good reason to buy, the jap stuff has all modern comforts but like most cars will fall in value, one of the strange things with defenders. long may it continue doc
weejase
Even though I want an everday vehicle I only do about 5k a year I drive 10 mins to and from work and don`t do any motorway driving. I`ve spent a small fortune on my jimny over the last 6 months so I`m used to having a 4x4 that needs stuff fixed all the time jase.

limestone_cowboy
Nissan Navara or Mitsubishi L200 pick-ups best of both worlds and will pull a house down.. ps buy a load cover or buy one with a load cover already fitted or even a tail-top cover Guns in the passenger seats behind the driver and all the sh*tty stuff outside in the pick-up body.. You know it makes sense Mike Edited May 6, 2010 by limestone_cowboy

HDAV
Is that a serious price you are asking? and are you likely to get that much? We (at work) were going to get new landrovers this year but didnt due to them offering us such low prices for part exchange. They offered us 7500 for the 110 double cabs. and 8500 for the countys. All are 2006, got between 30-35k on the clock. BF goodrich mud terrains, CD players etc. Now the dealership have lost out on selling 6 brand new double cabs and a single cab pickup. Wow thats low! http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/v...word=LAND+ROVER http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/v...word=LAND+ROVER http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/v...word=LAND+ROVER Unless there is something seriously wrong with em I would expect you to get 9-10 easily P/X Which dealer? Do you buy or lease them? http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/v...rch_full=SEARCH You could sell them all privately 1 by 1 and order new ones (perhaps the dealer was put off by having so many similar coming in (Defender 110 crewcabs are seriously rare! and fetch a big premium) One of the indy specialists may bite your arms off

rodp
Is that a serious price you are asking? and are you likely to get that much? I got £4000 for a 1986 110 with a 300tdi in it. First to view bought it, travelled from Cornwall (St Ives) to the midlands for it. So yes, they fetch serious money.
