crocket
Hi all Over the past few months I have had some great days on stubble and rape but for last 10 days or so all the pigeons slung their hooks. I am in the East Midlands, the area is mainly arable with several large woods near by, yet now I see more maggies than woodies. Any ideas where they are because somebody has got my woodies and I want them back. ROB REYNOLDS UK
round my way which is just down the road from you .there are pigeons in every field and thats the trouble they are every were and not just feeding in one field so as soon as i start shooting there off to some were else as they fly off they see there mates in the other field feeding and they just drop in and stay there unless they get moved on again. i think if the snow settles for a few days and on the third day you clear some snow of the rape and the best way and the easiest way to do this is to get some heavy rope and get you and your mate at each end and then drag it down the field a few times to make an area the size of 50 meter swimming pool should do the trick and bring them in but dont let the farmer see you doing it as the farmer may not like 1,000 of pigeon feeding on the only bit of rape showing

jonno 357
The pigeons haven't flocked together. The bloody weather is changing from one day to another. Its freezing one day then glorious sunshine the day after. I think we need a few days consecutive of really cold weather and they will have to feed on the rape over a longer period of time during the day Going to york guns tomorrow and a reccy at the same time Jonno
harryhawk
Out beating today and saw a two flocks each about 500 birds. They were late harvesting the maze due to the rain in Oct/early Nov so there's lots laying in the fields. Right in the middle of the shoot next to some of the cover crops, so no chance of getting at them

Catamong
Loads about on rape in Herts, Beds & Bucks, this time of year they're normally in the woods scoffing the acorns and beechmast, but I've never seen 'em out so early on the rape. They're also not yet in vast flocks, which gives much more steady shooting, and there are vast numbers of young birds about.
