Hi

Looking at getting a pick up or a defender for a second car it will only be used as a shooting truck but which one is the most reliable and has the best mpg. Anybody that owns any one of them could you please tell me how you get on with it. My budget is 5k

Thanks

Ben

the pickup will be more fuel efficient and you will get a far newer one for the money. Also if its newer than 2001 it will be cheaper on road tax than a defender unless you get the truck cab version. Personally I'd be getting a low mile 2004-2005 L200 for that money

I thought about the jimny but its not got that much room, that hilux looks good, I've been doing some looking and I can get a 2004 l200 4Life for about 3500 with canopy and low miles. Anybody that owns a L200 could you give me some advice?

Thanks

I've got a 2001 L200 and get @30mpg down to about 28 if I'm off road a lot but that is a commercial spec with the smaller tyres, I'd recomend one as a shooting bus, there were issues about 2003 with heads going porous but its not a massive cost as replacement heads for them are relatively cheap. Certainly under 1K fitted and with the cost of the truck in the first place they are cheaper than a lot of the competition. Plus points are a proper lamping platform on the back and somewhere to put game that isn't in the truck! also with a canopy its spot on for moving dogs. If you can get a new shape 2006 onwards they are the one to go for but it might be just outside your budget

The new ('06 on) L200 is good and returns upwards of 30mpg; I have one. Prior to that they were heavy on fuel.

I bought a new L200 Trojan last year - last long run was up to Cullen & back = 31 mpg (driving hard :good: :good:)
