Country Boy
Almost drew a blank yesterday, there was no wind only bright sunshine, shot a handful early on in the area the birds had been feeding but they went on to quieter pastures. I think I will wait until the temperature goes below freezing unless anyone has any suggestions / solutions?! Cheers, CB:{

Stealth Stalker
Guys I'm sure you've all heard this before, but try and get a few other guns covering neighbouring fields, this breaks them up and keeps them on the move. I was out today with Will Beasley and another 2 guns, we were probably a 1/2 a a mile apart, when the guy downwind shot some birds it would send the flock back my way and vice versa. The idea is to keep them moving otherwise they just settle on another field that isn,t covered. Cheers S.S
aubs
You're all bloody bonkers, it's too cold ,get wrapped up and go for a nice walk with the dog ha ha ha ! I find decoying is very hard this time of year for the same reason as you all say they just move on some where else. Try and find where the birds are roosting and watch where they are feeding, then try and get in between the roost and the feeding field. Set the alarm and get the birds on their way for breakfast. On a good windy day the flight line will not be disturbed and once all the birds have left the roost you can packup and get yourself some nice bacon and eggs and then go back for the birds on their way back to the woods. Hawkeye you must be maaaaaaaddddddd!!!!! Cheers Aubs
Dunkield
If this time is year isn't any good, or hard going at least, when would normally be a good time to get out again? I have heard February mentioned but obviously that would depend on the weather, what is the next milestone in the pigeon shooting season? Sorry for the basic questions, I haven't done a lot of pigeon shooting, sucessful stuff anyway :*)

aubs
Hi stuart, I'd say harvest is the best time of year for pigeon shooting but that doesn't mean you can't shoot big bags this time of year. Last year the pigeons were still feeding on berries and acorns and they didn't hit the rape hard until well into january. This year there aren't as many acorns etc so they are on the rape now in my area. Peas will be drilled around Feb which can make for some good shooting. All you have to do is keep trying. Cheers Aubs PS hawkeye you know the pleasure was all yours
lurcherboy
I don't bother going out in those conditions CB as it is very rarely productive. LB
lanber1088
I agree with you LB, a nice walk round with the dog beats sitting in a cold hide with F all to shoot at.
ferretmanabu
Definitely need the wind to be blowing fairly strong and also needs to be cold. I reckon if you aint shivering in your hide and you can still feel your fingers, then its not gonna be a good days shooting.
