Colster
Had Friday off this week so went rough shooting with a couple of mates with my new O/U, had my first go at pigeon decoying and whilst I thought it was ok, come half ten and the pigeons stopped feeding we went drey poking which I loved! As we didn't have a lofting pole we "poked" them with a 12b cartridge. Great fun and ended the day with 20 pigeons, 8 squirrels, 4 jays, 4 rabbits and a crow. Then today, I went out on the bunnies with the LR for a few hours before the rain came. Bagged 6, then came home to skin them to find missus had not only filleted out the friday's squirrels but also cooked up a couple of the pigeon breasts with some salad and new spuds from the garden. Delicious! Here's a little pic from Friday, even my dog, Rufus looks happy. Edited June 13, 2010 by Colster

Colster
Sell the .22, get a .17hmr, so much better. Have a variation in for one at the mo but doubt I'd ever sell the LR now. I think I could love both!
Frenchieboy
Great shooting mate. Isn't it so much easier poking them squirrels out with a load of 5 or 6 shot compared with using a lofting pole! I wish my wife was as helpful with what I shoot as yours is mate, if i want to eat rabbits I have to cook them my self!

Until you find a BOP, or other non target species at home Poke 1st, then shoot.
Beardo
i'll just reiterate what Gary has said - you should ALWAYS poke a drey before shooting (unless you've just seen a squirrel run into it), as you may end up shooting a Little Owl etc. as they commonly use empty dreys. Lloyd90
Lovely shooting mate but don't go blasting dreys. As said owls like to use them to nest. Don't go getting yourself into trouble Nice dog
