Chard
I was there with Tosspot last weekend and the bloke that works there was telling us it had been sold as a going concern
Mungler
It will get turned as a pre-pack New name, same faces, same place. The usual way of things.
Nicky T
Seems like there are no registered shoots listed on the CPSA site at Southdown as of the end of the month
jonnyoftheboy
i had noticed for a while that all the various "southdown" companies (southdown wholesale supplies, southdown shooting, etc) had mit-fulls of CCJ's etc so yep, looks just like a pre-pack.... shed the debt..... start again

Humanvet
According to this months Pull Mag, Southdown is in liquidation. Another one bites the dust The scuttlebut that came to me was that while the previous owners may have "gune under," the ground has apparently been acquired by A.N.Other and it is to continue, praise be..! Watch the forum for further and better info. Humanvet
paulos
Is anybody shooting Southdown next weekend? I am tempted to have a look in while I am Darn Sarf. That is if I'm not in the final at Southern Counties.

That is if I'm not in the final at Southern Counties. No ******* Student has ever made the final at Southern Counties, so a trip to Southdown for you is deffo on the cards. I may well be there as I think they're doing 100 Reg Sporting, plus 100 Reg Sportrap, which will be good practice prior to me shooting the World Compak Champs in Malaga the following week. Let's hope the new "owners" make a good effort with reasonable entry fees, good targets and fair payouts. As others have said, this ground has been in steady decline for a number of years, it needs a good tidy up and some fresh thinking to restore it to its former glory. Cat. Catamong
Well, I did shoot it, no sign of any ******* Northern Students despoiling the scenery, thank goodness. Now, I've shot Southdown since the day it opened right up to today, I've been loyal to that ground because IMHO the targets are always first class. I went there today expecting something a bit different, perhaps a bit more exciting, but I'm afraid I was sadly disappointed. It's very much the same, rather tired and shabby place that it's become over the last few years, and apart from a coat of wood stain on the timber mezzanine platform next to the clubhouse, nothing has changed. I said hello to one of the new owners but he just grunted at me and wandered off, if it was my ground I'd want to meet and greet everybody with a firm handshake, a friendly welcome and a free tea or coffee, a gesture like that costs nothing but builds so much goodwill. We booked in for both the 100 bird Sportrap and the 100 bird Sporting, that cost us £70 each, OK, no difference there. I checked out the facilities, you'd have thought the new owners would have spruced up the toilet block, but no, it was dirty, it would make even an Essex Man feel rather reluctant to sit on those bog seats. As for the targets, well I've got to say it was nothing special, the same old stands in use, nothing new, which is hardly surprising as the course was set by the previous ground owners Son, who I understand has been retained by the new owners. We all shot OK, the three of us did a 85, 90, 92 on the Sportrap and an 89, 90 and 92 on the Sporting, but somehow, we all felt a little bit short-changed by the experience, so we ain't gonna be dashing back there. An opportunity lost, I would say, I wish the ground owners good luck, they're gonna need it. Cat.

I can never understand why anyone would be prepared to take on somewhere that was obviously struggling, and then fail to make the best of an opportunity to impress new and potential future customers. As you say Rob, being polite friendly and maybe enthusiastic costs sod all. A word of mouth recommendation is worth so much more than advertising, and given your experience and the circles you move in, i would go out of my way to make sure you were welcomed. I've never visited Southdown and I can't say that I am that keen to try it now. Shame :(
