Down South
I've been persuaded to get a mod for my .17 hmr. I don't want to spend silly money, its got to be light and usable on .22 lr aswell. 1 mod , 2 calibres, is it allowed? Your advice please and sorry if I'm covering old ground. DS. sussex lad
Mark, What do you have on yours m8 ?
badsworth
I have an ASE UTRA mod on my .17 following recommendations on this site. It cost £60 and is strippable and cleanable. It works well - but with a round at 2,500 fps it isn't silent. It is also a bit heavy. It would be too much for my .22. I have a SAK mod on my .22 which cost £30, is small and light and with subsonic rounds is ALMOST silent. With high velocity rounds in my .22 it is slightly louder than my .17 with the ASE UTRA. My advice is get a mod for each if you can. You can leave them on the guns and it saves messing around. I cannot advise you on the law - I would have thought that so long as your ticket allows you to have a mod on both calibres you could swap one mod between both. If you decide to do that you will have to choose whether you want a mod which is too expensive/heavy for one calibre or too noisy for the other. Good luck! Down South
Thanks Mark, yes I do have permission for both calibre mods so its down to which one. Keep it coming please. SL, thats what I was thinking aswell but I just need convincing. Thanks.

markbivvy
hi frank. yes it is mate .
Frank
Cheers Mark. Looks small and compact, unlike the T8s, which are huge. Are the MKIIs heavy?
markbivvy
no mate there are not, the lad i shoot with has a t8 and hates it with a vengance since i bought the stalker. he uses it on .17 & 223. and he just hates walking any distance. Frank
Sorry for all the questions, but im getting intersted here. Does it reduce the noise on a .223 like the T8 does?
rogo
Mark, Do they just screw on the end of the barrel or do they slide over the barrel then screw if you know what i mean? Trying to say, does the barrel stay in the expansion chamber like the PES types? Are they easy to clean too? Mike.
markbivvy
down range you you cant tell the difference, i only use one to stop the bit of muzzle flip. i like to see em go down, and without a mod i could not see em drop. AndyCM
The ASE Utra gets my vote for both .22lr & hmr - I agree with Mark it's a bit heavier than some but I've got used to it. I went through a few to get to the ASE for both. I paid £60. I never leave the mods on the rifles, as they can harbour moisture, I always take them off before storing the rifles. Cheers AndyCM
markbivvy
hi rogo they just screw on the end mate, **** ball to clean, both ends come of then the middle section comes out. all alley.
Frank
Mark, thanks very much, so the sound is a bit louder then the T8, but not noticeable down range, intersting, might just get one.

Down South
Thanks for the advice everybody, its down to the ASE or SAK, I'll look at both at the weekend. I don't want to add too much bulk and weight to the rifle. I think I'll hang on to my old Parker Hale when i trade in the 10/22, it does the job. I was just trying to cut down on gear. 10/22 for sale in the new year!
