Davy Holt
Hiya, had a few mates out with me for a boys weekend, although we were getting plenty fish the skate were being elusive until Sunday when this little girl turned up she tipped the scales at an impressive 208lb and just to make the day we recaptured her again 3 hours after she was released, so 2 guys got their PB skate with the same fish This is her being weighed at the first capture Edited July 2, 2010 by Davy Holt
carlosdesilva
Excellent fish mate well done! How big is the portion of chips to go with it? In sea fishing it must be quite rare to get repeat captures that close together?

Cranfield
Thats a very nice fish and good to see it being handled correctly (and released) by someone who knows what they are doing. We are off to Clew Bay at the beginning of Sept for our annual trip and Mary will find us one........or two.

12borejimbo
Awesome fish, well done for not being tempted to take it home and treasure the beast for another day, as it so proved later on with your mate.
Cranfield
Not being a fisherman type, Why was it thrown back and not eaten? or dont you eat skate? shaun The "Skate" you buy in the Fishmongers, or Chippie is not Skate its actually "Ray", normally Thornback Ray. The fish in Davy's picture is a Common Skate (not that common) and these are traditionally tagged and released. Because they are not widely distributed around our coast, they are considered "sports fish".
caeser
What a beast. And to catch it again is interesting. The only time I've done that was with a dogfish about 20 years ago. Nice one pal.
Davy Holt
Hiya, thanks for the kind comments Cranfield I hope you do well with Mary, I'm hoping to get back over there myself to try for a White skate. Because they are not widely distributed around our coast, they are considered "sports fish". and just to add on to this they are also a protected species in UK waters, so must be returned alive when caught.
