Paddy Galore!
Hi chaps, just bought one of these scopes, now, other than the posh box, are they any better than the other "much cheaper" hawke scopes? It's the 3-12x50 L4DOTIR. any views please, regards, gram.
MC
I like Hawke scopes and for the money they are all excellent. OK they are not in the same league as an S & B or Swarovski but then they don't cost anywhere near as much either. I have a 3-9 x 50 IR on my Ruger and a 4-14 x 56 mil dot on my .17HMR, neither have ever let me down or have lost their zero.

Colster
I have a 3-9x42 30IR on my LR but it will go on my HMR when damn variation comes back. Been very impressed with it, especially when I just want to stay out that little bit longer as light fades. For a 42mm front end it's light gathering is damn impressive, much better than the 6.5-20x50 Filipino Whitetail Classic it replaced. The little dot is handy too as it's on the front focal plane, soon let's you know if your head is misaligned as it won't be in the centre of the crosshairs. I seem to be gathering Hawke's (the LR has a MAP Pro waiting for it) for no apparent reason other than I can't fault any of them so I keep them, I've been through quite a few scopes but the Varmint II and Endurance 30IR are keepers. The Endurance range offers Good VFM in my book, but I understand they do not all come from the same manufacturer, and reticle choice is down to the user, I have MillDot on ALL my rifles now, but that is what I want... I'm sure it will serve you well, and if by any chance not, then Deben have always performed well on the warranty side!!

Gram was asking about the 30mm ones which iirc are only 30/30, mine is which is why it's going on the HMR, although to be fair I've gotten used to working out whereabouts a 90yard bunnies head needs to be in it on the LR. Thats what I was suggesting, perhaps I didn't put it across to well, I'm not a fan of the 30/30..or Dot...or frankly almost anything else...BUT THATS WHAT I WANT!! Mr_Logic
I had a 3-12x56 German #4 w/ IR dot, and that was pretty good. Bit of a goldfish bowl though which is why it went, but not bad for the money.

Paddy Galore!
This is the scope mounted, rather pleased with it actually, only 3mm twixt the scope and barrel so those screw in lens caps are a god send Been looking out over the field at the back of our house and it's remarkably clear even in low light.
