Jim Sarakun
And how big too. If he is of a larger stature, 12g wins hands down if not just for the price of the cartridges. Better all rounder too the 12g, in my view. I bought a nice 12g for my son a couple of years ago. He still shows no interest, and I do not pressure him, it has to be his choice. Maybe his younger brother will be interested one day. Or his younger sister..

Dempy
At 14 I would certainly be thinking 12g, I think most of us had moved on to a 12 by then

Katash
I was 14 when I started shooting and I was very small for my age, after a few shots on a .410 I moved right to a 12g Lanber for my first gun.
Jega
Without a doubt 12g along with 21gm or 24gm carts to start with.Accompany this with a couple of lessons from a good instructor who will help sort out any problems with recoil/kick by teaching him about mounting and using the gun correctly. The vast majority of people who have recoil problems can usually put it down to poor mounting and general shooting technique.
