crow trapping.

Recommended Posts

im having the dog boys round first thing to deal with some rat holes, so ill take the shotgun and try blasting a few. Tuesday im deffo building a ladder trap. They are the biz

Building a ladder trap would be the way to go, if I was close I'd offer to give you a hand.

Just make sure you keep the door open, and bait it for a good week or two before the fateful night, cheap bread/feed does fine. (My best one, they where going through 3 loaves of bread a day)

Another big tip is only to bait it at night, if the crows/rooks keep seeing you going in and out, they'll figure somethings up and the trap will be alot less effective, and to that matter when you go to empty it, do so at night for the same reason.

The last tip is to make sure you have a bit of wood/metal that is attached to the trap, and inside (part of the frame is fine). I've found the most effective way of emptying a trap of 200 Rooks is to pick them up by the feet and bash their heads against said bit of wood - as fiddling about with a priest is a pain and their necks are too strong to ring quickly.

There is not much point in having a call bird, as Corvids are quiet smart and realise that if they turn up every morning there will be a bunch of food there, after poking about, they'll just get into the routine of flying in/out.

good man Bleeh. wish you lived up here. :good: than again, i have got magman (although he shoots everything that moves  )

Well between you and me, the first time I ever tried a ladder trap, I thought all was going well but I ended up finding 4 Collared doves and a Sparrow hawk inside.

at least you caught something :good: just been and rebiated. yesterdays bait was gone, so thats a good sign. put a fair old bit of stuff in. bread, eggs, crisps, old pasta and some grain which they have been ripping the bags open on the farm.

It’ll probably catch a crow or two but will it catch a lot of crows <_<

Too small and as harv says ‘ladder’ needs modifying. Mesh baffles to hang down from ladder. I’d also consider dulling it down with some timber treatment.

No door then the only way in will have to be through the bottom (no comments from the Essex boys please). Shouldn’t need a call bird, just rabbit baits.

I like the idea ‘it won’t fit in the car’ I once made a seriously large wooden X logging frame only to find once built it wouldn’t fit through the door of my workshop! Luckily it was bolted together.
