12borejimbo
I want the same too, you can pick up a really nice wrx sti scooby for about 4-5 grand, it is ALOT of fun, like a go kart, I know what its like as my mate has got one chipped and boosted to 330 bhp, however, I would rather go for an e36 BMW m3 evolution, convertible, 4 seats, 321 BHP and at the same price, youve got class, style and sex factor, lol, let alone cruising with the top down in the summer sun!! or get a mazda rx7, hold their money really well, look, sound and perform amazingly but you only have 2 seats, but what the hell, its for you, not everyone else. Mechanically they are very reliable if looked after Is your golf standard or remapped?

Andy_B
I was in the same position as you about 2 years ago...bought a WRX 2.5 shelled out 60 quid every 3 days for petrol 400 quid for a years road tax ...the brakes were **** even after a new master cylinder and servo ...uncomfortable on long journeys ...constantly getting challanged by fiestas and corsas at traffic lights...ended up chopping it in for a BMW Msport diesel now only 60 quid a month on fuel and 130 quid a year on tax....BUT....i really miss the subaru for raw power and that noise !!!! J@mes
I drove both the WRX and the Evo, considered them both too - but I didn't let running costs cloud my judgement, and I bought the better car. Evo VIII MR.
njc110381
A good mate of mine has had both the Subaru and the Evo. For all out fun - Evo. For every day use and comfort - the STI is nicer IMO. Of course if you can afford an Audi RS6, Merc C63 AMG or maybe an M3 or better still an M5 then that would be miles better. Personally I'd have to sell my house to buy one of those though! Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
I bought a legacy twin turbo one of quickest cars I have had A to B on fast back roads . Loads of space for dogs etc . Still not a patch on my old skool M5 e28 or even better still my E34 M5 . For you budget you can get a whole lot of either scooby evos a little bit dearer. Heres a picture of my lovely M5 before I sold her which I regret for numerous reasons. Regards OTH

gixer1
I drove both the WRX and the Evo, considered them both too - but I didn't let running costs cloud my judgement, and I bought the better car. Evo VIII MR. Agree with the above, the Evo is the thinking mans 4 wheel drive turbo....the subaru is the spotty yoof.... Had 2 Evo's in the past now (a II and an VIII) and they are expensive to run but very well put together, unlike the subaru with a no 2 piston made of chocolate... I was a bit younger when I had the 2 and had a boost controller..... once got a bit "over excited" with the adjustment, blew the dipstick out of the tube due to excessive crank case pressure.....you would think a car with a red hot turbo's designers would think mounting the dipstick tube right in the middle of a red hot exhaust manifold was a bad idea.. ..although at least the 2 front bonnet vents let me know it was on fire.... Thank god for flashbacks blowing themselves out... Edited July 11, 2010 by gixer1
reedbradshaw
Is this a joke? type r isnt in the same league, plus they sound **** and have to be nailed everywhere. Go for the impreza, i have just got another Classic, W reg, few subtle modifications and i cant get enough of driving it Loads of grip, power and the sound is  Have to agree. 4wd vs FWD, the type R would be left standing. Also with the type R being v-tec you would have to drive it everywhere like you stole it to get the most out of it and i suspect that would get tiring very quickly. How about an Rx8, granted they cost a bomb in fuel and servicing if used as a daily driver but prices are dropping like mad. Weekend car? starlight32
A ). Yes. B ). Yes. There's nothing better than shelling out £££££££'s every month on a car to sit behind old dears on country roads, getting to the pub no quicker than a 1.4 Ford Focus and drinking coke all night waffling on about how big your turbo is and on the rolling road 'it's 8000BHP', after that you can meet other like minded sad sacks at the local Maccy D's and burn in and out of the car park all evening like a 14 year old smackhead celebrating his first hand-job. Yeah go for it, you might enjoy it VW Polo 1.4 Panzerkampfwagen Bitchmutha Turbo Cock-knocker You may laugh but they ain't no good for room either when you have a bird in the front and want to make a tight turn.
