Suffolk Police I have been told destroy all scrapped guns themselves, eliminating any chances of illegal guns! you should contact your Firearms dept for the correct procedure, you should have no problem in keeping the barrel.

I'd do as Mungler suggests, walking into the old bill wanting a receipt for a gun when you're giving them a tiny piece that looks like half a gun with a serial number on is just asking for questions. Only other option would be to check if your RFD will handle scrapping it

If the action is defunct can the gun be 'in proof'?, selling it out of proof is illegal

check the barrel out it should have a serial number, that may even correspond to the action number, sell as barrel, hand the action in to cops or friendly rfd, sell rest of bits

I had 2 barrels for my Remi 1100, neither had a serial no. The second barrel wasn't listed on my SGC and was always shown to my FLO on the renewal visits, no comment was ever made that it should be on ticket. Sold the gun and the spare to a dealer with no hassle or comment.

So, in answer to the original question - my thinking is that you can sell it to another SGC holder face to face on sight of their ticket or via an RFD and hand the numbered action in to an RFD for destruction.

Might just be worth a call to your licensing dept to ask.
