Hello all

does is matter what speed your magnet spins at

i have mine set fast but my friend reckons it looks like the birds are shying of at the last min.

he has set slow as he reckons it looks like the birds are coming in to land.

does it matter tho i hope some of could shed some light on this

thanks deadshot

I used to have a controller but bust it now I don't bother and my magnet still works ok mind you I'm as happy with a couple of floaters depending on conditions I've not found the magnet makes a massive diffrence and can make matters worse. Can have it's day though like everything.

I find fast generally work better but I do tend to vary it. I try to get a rough speed the birds come in to the decoys at, and try to set the magnet to mimic that.

I do find when the battery starts to slow down it is less effective

Over all, we have found that the most effective speed range on a Rotor is betwen 38-45 RPM. 90% of the time flat out (42-45 RPM) is cool. However in exceptionally hot or still conditions ( or a day where its very hot AND still!) the slower the better. However go too slow and the birds will twig that they look unrealistic and will flare off.

I have found it varys some much even within the course of the day but I agree with Will comments.

But yesterday I found just bouncers and no whirly was best the field has been shot hard with birds wary and flaring all the time.

So flat out as a rule of thumb .

Regards OTH

As above.

 Ive gone down this road ! My thought ? Birds moving fast ( quick wing flashes, the whites) so more like a landing bird but then when using a flapper its something like the bionic man (slow) and for a bouncer (froze) unless for wind ! think the wing whites for landing bird display most important , use real birds and dont worry to much on the speed but try the side way tilt more ? as they say trial n error !

I also think the faster the better about 80% of the whole speed. Its the flash of the wing bars and neck bands that catches there eye and bye the time they realize theres something wrong its too late. As my battery is going and it slows down the woodys tend to be more wary.

Hope that helps  :stupid:
