jonesbach
Just opening the gates up for opinions on bipods..? never used them personally but only shot RF to 150 yrds up until now. normally take a shot off a fence post if i need to steady up,other than that most shots are free standing using the sling or kneeling. I was wandering if it was worth buying a bipod for my .223, just adding weight to the gun, and if so..which one?

Depending what your ground is like a bipod is very useful, I use the shortest as mostly it leand on a vehicle roof or lying prone. If walking about sticks are easier Edited August 5, 2010 by al4x

If walking about sticks are easier will give that a try then! cheers alex. i do most of my shooting walking about, tried a stick once and failed to get along with it, was steadier without it! only problem i find with lying down(apart from laying in $h*t  ) is that you cut down the angle and backdrop you have when standing..do you find that an issue? al4x
depends on the ground, if its flat I have to say I tend to shoot from the roof of the pickup usually to gain some elevation. Long bipods tend to be pretty useless and I'd probably stick with what you're using

Dekers
If you are in a situation where a Bipod can be used then you will find it excellent....no point mounting a 6-9 Bipod over land with 2 foot of wheat on it... :look:
mick miller
I found my long bipod better for the hmr than sticks but I guess its each to there own? If you're shooting over tall grass a 6-9 or 9-13 is going to be pretty useless, especially if the ground is undulating. On anything grazed they're a godsend though and if you can get a bit of elevation, like shooting off the back of a truck, a bipod is absolutely bob on. Oddly I get on just fine with the .22lr off sticks though, figure that one out?

Ideal for zeroing but in hunting situation i found it a pain to to follow my target (charlie) with it as you cant pan round on it. Id have to lift it and reset position continually. Now use a dpm patterned bean bag (got it from a place by the Curry's roundabout in carmarthen). Find this really works well for me-its light and ive sewn a shoulder strap onto it so its easy to carry about, plus if not much is happening doubles as a comfy seat!! . Nos da boyo.
