Paul T
I was on rape stubble yesterday - a few pigeons flying and always seemed to be a few dropping in the next field but one. Light rain most of the morning and I was under a permanent hide so couldn't re-pitch. I gave up about 2 ish and decided to have a walk round the hedgerows with the dog to see if he could flush a rabbit or two, but nowt doing. Got to the furthest field and there were 50+ slap bang in the middle of 10 acre field. Not a prayer in getting close and by that time I wasn't going back for decoys and standing in the rain anyway! Dog was doing his best to find me something, but in the end we called it a day and went back to the farmhouse for a cracking late lunch and beer. Then typically the ****** sun came out Highlight of the day was borrowing one of the farm quads to nip back across the fields to pick up the rest of my gear. About 10 years since I've been on one and I'd forgotten how much fun they are. If I can get the dog to sit on the back I'll use that next time I go. Hopefully I'll make up for the lack of shooting yesterday with a couple of hours on the clays this morning. Cheers
UKPoacher
I got on around 3:30pm after helping with pens, feed and water on the shoot. There were about 300 pigeons on the rape stubble near to the riding centre so I put Roger the scarecrow up and went to the bottom of the field out of the way where I have a permenant hide near the flightline. About a hundred pigeons had beat me to it. So, I set up and then had about 20 shots for 12 birds. Meanwhile, over the road on barley stubble where there had been nothing but rooks all day, another lad was blatting away like the Italian army on exercise. I don't know what he ended up with, but he owes me a big, big favour moving the pigeons as I did.
b325
Yesterday on one of my rape stubble fields shot 30 for 56 shots some nice shots and some easy misses.Pigeons seemed to have moved off as most of the spilt seed had started to grow. Most of the pigeons had barley in thier crops, so i think i was getting passing trade mostly.Nice day really just enough to keep it interesting.Better than being sat on the combine for 8 hours anyway. simshaz
Well my mate and i have some new permissions and today was the first time we have shot it. I went for a recce last night and there were pigeon and duck on the ground so looking good. got there early and set the pattern out with 2 terminators on bouncers at the back. sat for about 2 hours with only 1 crow coming over the pattern, nothing in the air at all. we put all the gear in the back of the car and headed to a different field, pigeon in the middle within range so walked them off and set up again. shot a few real quickly only to see walkers on the edge of the field, apparently an unofficial but well used weekend route. so all in the back of the car again and another move. no pigeon dropping into the next field even using banger ropes on the last one .... birds still dropping in good news is that on the 1st field we set up on had 100 -150 geese on it that we walked off. flights of Geese came over steady all morning will stick a quick vid on you tube later and post it here roll on 1st september if we are under a good flight line .. as it seems we may be

remmy1100
been out today loads of birds in the air ,but too much food about birds are flittin from stubble field to stubble field to hedge to setaside not worth trying to decoy them till some gets ploughed in around here

Ste Berriman
Shot today over rape stubble, really poor only 2 birds to show for 3 hours! Been shooting the same fields regulary for around 2 weeks now and have been potting on average 25 birds each outing today they must have moved to pastures new as there were very few birds on the wing and even fewer in the fields. Will be out at the weekend on another farm I shoot over which is looking a little more promising.
