I have to trade some whitetail deer antler, and will cut blue beech, or hickory staves if someone needs one....or open to suggestions

Dunkield
Although I don't have anything to swap (yet) I wouldn't mind some advice on bending black buffalo horn if any of you experts can help a hapless chancer like me :*) How hot does it need to get and what would you use to bend it? tenbears10
I'm not 100% sure stuart but I have been told that if you are straightening the stick to make a thumbsitck or similar you need to heat it so you can only just hold it then it will bend properly. Maybe buffalo horn is similar?
Dunkield
I have book which says it is very tough stuff and you may need to use a scafold pole once the horn is heated the book is a bit light on detail, but then I guess part of the fun is finding out for yourself. Trouble is, I only have 2 bits so I don't want to knacker one of them at the first attempt. I have made a template out of bit of old pine in the meantime, as the first stick will be for the missus I want to get it right

Dunkield
Good man John - thanks. I am going to have another go at it tonight, I am gald I have done the right thing by getting it roughly to shape first. It doesn't need a lot of bending so I will see how it goes.
