fluky_poke
What are the thoughts of the members on a pigeon close season. Do most people here shoot all year round or do some hang up the 'long-iron' for a few months?
ernyha
Personally I shoot all year round as and when there are pigeons about to provide a good days sport. While we keep being told that pigeon numbers are still on the increase,I see no harm in this.
Cranfield
I fish and travel quite a lot, so I have a sort of "close season", but its not for a set period, or at a specific time. I don,t have a moral problem shooting birds during their breeding season , especially as this seems to be up to 10 months of the year. Buzzer
I shoot pigeon all through the year, although i do take one day of the week end to fly fish when the weather warms up. I dont think that the pigeon needs a closed season yet, but maybe if farmers stop growing oil seed rape then there may be a need. columbus
I only shoot pigeon in august, sept, oct & nov not for any moral reasons but simply that is the only time that there are enough birds in the area to warrent it. If the oppertunity presented its self at another time of year, i would be there, like a shot so to speak.
Elma Fud
As Ernyha states I see no harm in carrying on through the summer months if the population is still increasing. My problem is how to stop shot birds from spoiling i.e.(heat / flyblown)
Supergame 2
I shoot all through the year... There classed as pests and a closed season would be hypocritical, unless the pigeons staus was to be changed. I've said it before I view the pigeon as a sporting bird, but the farmers and pigeon shooters have mutual benefits from pigeon shooting. predator
i shoot pigeons all year round and would not want a closed season, reason being who would say what time of year would it be,during breeding season, pigeons as i have read from so called experts can breed all year round weather permitting, and it would probably come from some plonker who only watches pigeons from out of his office windows, who would say sorry season closed, because my feelings are next thing you will be charged for a permit to shoot them, because they would see a market for this and then watch out wallet.............now i can get off me soap box NO TO CLOSED SEASON  >
