mpk
Just read your other post , i think 4 may be a bit young , My 8 year old will probably be getting his first air rifle for xmas but i know that my 4 year old does not have the attention span to pick much up and to listen to instruction and follow well, i dont want him getting bored to early . At least with the older one we can go and have a pop at a few bunnys once he has his eye in .
Dekers
Impossible to answer by way of age I believe! My lad didn't show any much interest until he was about 9 or 10, then he just pestered me to try my 12g.....no stopping him after that!! He has his own coterminus now several years down the line! berties
My youngest had a air rifle at 7 shot 28 at 8 ,20 at 9 now he is 10 he is starting on12 but he received training from a junior gun club at purbeck shooting school which starts in a class room and covers many issues such as safety and cleaning that members with sgc have asked about ,what age comes down to size commitment, gun fit weather they can hold a gun comfortably,
haggis
He is keen, listens to what you say but maybe he'd get bored quickly. Maybe a plastic sbs cap gun for christmas.

Stretch
How old do you think kids should be to start some kind of shooting in the garden(supervised) with a BB gun or something else, any idea's? Haggis. Personally i think it's more about the childs personality, if he/she is demonstrating good attention to things an has a bit about them then you can introduce them to a gun. My eldest (now 6) fired my air pistol at 5, i blew some balloons up in the garden for him to shoot and he loved it, He's quite mature for his age but my youngest (he's 4 now), don't think i'll trust him with a gun til a teen............. Little **** lol.

silver pigeon 3
I agree its not all about age, its more about the individual child, my eldest is coming up 9 and is mad on shooting. He first came out with me with the air rifles at age 5 and loved picking up shot birds/rabbits etc, he then moved on to having a go at targets and when competant shot his first rabbit aged 6 and a bit. He now comes with me most trips out and is just about to get a .410 for his birthday (on my ticket but will be his to use). If they are keen get them started with whatever you feel is ok for them, after all they will be the shooters of tomorrow.
edr
I'm 15 and talk from personal experience, along as there interested and happy doing it then carry on. Most kids if they're enjoying it will take a bit of recoil. Even though it hurts a bit the enjoyment outways the pain. Just remember that only a few shots at first will flip the pain and enjoyment the other way round. With every aspect build up slowly for example: guage (410, 20, 12) and stock size etc. as it makes a big difference. Good Luck EDR
