harrycatcat1
I have just "breasted" 9 pigeons and it took me half an hour but I like to take my time and not waste any. Some people say they can do 10 in 30 seconds but I cant. Just wondered what others do ? breast pluck or crown. (Yes and for those who read my other thread I got six yesterday and 3 today. It was so windy today at dinnertime it nearly blew the hide away so I chucked the towel in after half an hour. I think the hide flapping did me no favours.) Fatcatsplat
Crown 'em - Can probably do 2 a minute - Rotate the wings off and take the feathers off the breast - Make a small cut just under the breastbone, stick your finger in and pull upwards - Whole crown comes off clean in your hands. Quick tidy up and bob's yer uncle! As for a flapping hide, go down the pound shop and buy some large bulldog clips - Tightens the hide up a treat. sitsinhedges
Used to breast them but now crown them. Use the method where you twist off the wings, pull the crop back get your thumbs inside its neck and split then turn the breast inside out on the skin. Take rubber gloves hunting to do it and you can leave the waste in the field for the foxes that way I also find it handy to have a bit of paracord and some tent pegs in my bag to lash hide poles down on windy days
