Shotgun cabinet

I want to mount my shotgun cabinet to the wall, but with the base resting on the floor. I dont want to remove the skirting board and i understand the firearms office will want the gap between the back of the cabinet and the wall filled. I plan to do this using a sheet of wood the same thickness as the skirting board. What i would like to know is do i need to use one whole sheet that is the same size as the cabinet or would it be ok to use two pieces? As long as there is no gap between the wall and the back of the cabinet it should be ok shouldn't it?

TIA

Hi, I was in the same situation when I put my cabinet in. I didn't want to remove the skirting. What I did was put wood under the cabinet to bring it up to the skirting level. Then I was able to fix the cabinet flush to the wall. The FEO was more than happy with this. I guess you would be fine using a sheet of wood, just as long as there is no way to get something behind the cabinet to lever it off the wall.

hope this helps.

Dave.

Not quite the same I live in a rented house landlord and estate agent don't care I have firearms and shotguns.

we all have an understanding with the house.

I could but didn't want to remove the skirting more hassle to sort later.

So I rested it on some wooden blocks same height as the skirt-turned the safe upside-down so the floor holes faced the top (for a later idea)

and bolted it to the wall using 3 14mm expanding bolts no issues F.L.O asked why upside-down, simply so I can bolt another safe on top.

I have my cabinet mounted about a foot off the ground, so that I can store stuff underneath

and clean the space with ease.

Exactly what I did. stack a yellow pages on four paint cans, it is the EXACT height of my skirting board. Rest the cabinet on it, and off you go. It worked perfectly for me and my firearms officer even took pictores to show to others in the future on how to do it.
