aj85
hi guys, im now applying for my FAC after shooting air rifles for a few years now. am a member of basc and a good shooting club etc, and have a few good permissions. my question is what are the minimum requirements for the land to be cleared for rimfire? the land in question is just over 16 acres surrounded by more farmland, and a motorway about a mile away (as the crow flies). there are lots of rabbits and the odd fox so im thinking .17 hmr for long range rabbit in the day and the occasional fox and .22 rf for close range rabbits and lamping. i know it may vary between forces but generally is that enough space for rimfire to be granted? also does anyone know if west midlands police allow .17 hmr as a fox calibre? thanks guys. libs
My uncle has his 4 acre back yard cleared upto .243 so I pressume its more to do with the topography and your attitude rather than the land size. Call the police, give them the postcodes of the land and it may already be cleared!

rimfire4969
My first 22 rimfire was granted on a piece of land about 11 acres with a footpath along one edge. So hopefully you should be ok but as you say depends on the force.

Colster
I pressume its more to do with the topography and your attitude rather than the land size. It has no bearing on the attitude of the shooter asking for clearance as once cleared any closed ticket holder (who had permission) could shoot on there. And there lies the problem! some FEO's and some shooters actually think land can be safe or unsafe
malkiserow
What force are you ? West Mids will not allow fox on .17HMR

The responsibilty still lies with the shooter to determine a safe shot regardless of what the land might be cleared up to and whether the shooter has an open or closed FAC. willy1
A friend of mine had some land checked for suitabilty, he was told by the feo that it would be ok for him to use up to .22 r/f as he had a closed certificate.I asked if that applied to me as well seeing as I had an "open" certificate,he said that I could use whatever calibre if I thought it safe to do so. Makes a mockery of land clearance, doesn't it? Alan
