Drdoug
Hi all, Just booked my very first goose shooting trip at the start of December. I have an over and under with a 2 3/4" chamber and am looking for suggestions of what cartridges I should buy for my trip. We will be shooting over fields not wetland if that makes a difference. Thanks
reddan
From memory I have used 32grm 4s steel - my gun isn't steel proof so less than 1/2 choke. Fields doesn't make a difference has to be non toxic because of what you are shooting. Edit: Not sure if you location changes that last bit on non toxic shot. reddan
Just checked BASC site and it appears that in scotland it is no lead on wetlands only so should be OK with lead on fields. Jim Tait
use BB's for the geese - they'll be decoyed?
Drdoug
Yeh they will be decoyed. Totally cant wait !
motty
If i were you i'd take at least a 3" magnum. That way you will have a lot more options with your load sizes. You could then use a 36 gm bb or 1 shot in steel, or go for some tungsten or wingmaster 1 1/2 oz loads. Oh yeah, you're inland so you can use some 1 1/2 oz loads in lead! WGD
42g 3's Lyalvale Express, lead... superb on decoyed geese. Bushwear, Stirling used to do them. Have a great trip!
Heilan Coo
Fiocchi Semi-Magnum 42g No3 (lead) for me
scolopax
If you can shoot reasonably straight and the geese are over decoys then 36grm of lead 3's are perfect, step up to 40-42grm if they get a little more rangey.
henry d
As with most of the above, 36+gms of No3`s will do the trick over decoys. BB`s

Thats the one to go for I also tried some ones,(in same weight and make) as my supplier only had half a case of 3's left and they were very effective!
