Hi All,

I have recently acquired a box of 22LR shot shells and was wondering if it safe to shoot these through my CZ452 with a sound moderator on.

Also would it cause any damage to the rifling inside the barrel.

Any advise would be greatly received.

Take the mod of and they are fine. I use them for rats in a stable where we dont have time to get any sort of aim with a scope(air gun) or dont want to blow holes in walls.

Only good to a few yards though and you will want to clean rifle after so maybe re-zero.

Did you get the crimmed ones or the ones with the plastic dome?

Errrrr!! they do have their moments, they turn your rifle into a short range shotgun, better suited for use on the move, have a bit of spread and potentially more knockdown on a rat than a .22lr which will almost always go clean through without any expansion. They are also far better suited for close range internal barn type work, so I would have to suggest they do quite a lot different to subs!

Have to agree with Dekers that they are completely different proposition to subs. they have their use, which is very limited but definately useful.

I prefer to use the ones with the plastic tip as i think that the crimped ones can scratch the bore when they open out as the often dont open evenly in my experience.

Bear in mind that the cases do have a tendency to expand in the chamber as the crimp un folds. This can lead to extraction problems - Just make sure you take a rod with you to poke the empty out if it gets stuck.

Also, you might want to pattern a couple on a large sheet of paper - The rifled bore tends to give a hollow circular pattern, meaning you might well miss what you're aiming at.

Stick to under 5 yards for sure.

With regard to using them with a mod fitted... I personally wouldn't. I opened up a case to see what the shot was like, and it's pretty randomly formed - Not many perfect spheres. If the muzzle is more than a couple of inches from the furthest baffle, you'll probably get bits of shot hit it. They're not particularly loud rounds anyway. :good:
