ditchman Posted October 21, 2010 Report Share Posted October 21, 2010 I really like reading peoples accounts of when they went shooting and decoyed 10-30 pigeons, ive been shooting for more than 40 years and yet to acheive the magic tonne! I like most people dont live in an area blessed with millions of suicidle pidgeons we have regular small visiting flocks (if we are lucky) and local birds who become very savvy to the sound of gunshot, what this does is to train us to make the best of everything ...fieldcraft, hide construction, changing the deeks when the wind turns, watching how the birds place themselves whilst driving to the shooting area, having a coffee and watching flightlines before we set up..............the list goes on....and the constant battle of new equipment expense to give us that edge keep on posting your days however big or small as i continue to read them to read them to try and gleen extra information to give me the edge good on yer ditchman Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have been shooting for over 30 years and I am still learning, especially about pigeon shooting. I still think reconnaisance is the best weapon you can have to tip the odds in your favour. We dont get mountains of piddies either, and as I shoot for the pot, I dont really want to shoot a ton, but most of the time its a dozen or so birds..mind you if I hit a few more the bags would improve! I rarely post as it can be intimidating when the guy posting before you have shot a big bag. Anyway I enjoy it whether I shoot 1 or 30... so maybe I'll post a bit more. activeviii Posted October 22, 2010 Report Share Posted October 22, 2010 I dont get many big bags, my bag shooting is normally the harvest 4 weeks and then its back to half a dozen a time. I just love been out there, me and my dog and on occasions i get company to share what i love. wednesday i went out for a couple of hours in the evening and come home with a Canada, rabbit and squirrel, all with 22lr on the ground. yesterday i wanted a little walk around with the dog again. just walking a little bit of grass land and ended up with 2 rabbits, 2 pigeons and 3 pheasants. the pigeons had oxygen masks on but the no5 hit the mark and they just crumpled. i have never bolted rabbits before with my cocker so i was so proud when he did flush a few for the gun and then go out to retrieve them. all in all a very nice few hours walking around and enjoying things. saw a few roe and muntjac for later in the year and more rabbits for a few more days walking around. never mind the bag sizes, its just great to be out.
