NorfolkPoacher
Hi guys and girls, just bought myself a lovely Rem 700 .243 with Composite stock stainless fluted 22" barrel with a wildcat mod. And i am interested in peoples personal bullet choice for this cabibre and weapon, i have decided upon 75gr compromise for charlie and small deer. any thoughts on the best in terms of accuracy for 75gr?? many thanks. jamie g
you could use 75 grain vmax. dont no if i would want to use the bt on deer though to be fair. me and a friend of mine was shooting at a gong with his 243 the other day the 70 grain blzkings where grouping superb in it. but again there bt which is not ideal on deer. i got to shoot some 70 grain hallow points in it which where accurate and i bet they would work well for both fox and deer. i think these where sierra bullets. steve_b_wales
I now load my .243 with 100grn soft point heads. These are excellent for any deer shooting, and devastating on fox.
garyb
75 or 80 grain are great for foxing out to 250 odd yards - if not further.. Seeing as you mention only small deer.. I'd load some sierra softpointed bullets around the above projectile weight and be done with it. fox control with 100grn is making hard work of it - in my opinion of course! I only shoot foxes at a maximum of 150 yards approx.

NorfolkPoacher
cheers for tips guys, i like the idea of retaining a flat trajectory hence the 75gr, i will look up some of your recommmendations and see what my rem likes and what my RFD stocks. cheers again Dave
DaveK
58 g vmax 43 grs n140 spot on for my howa 1500 75gn vmax over 41.2gn Viht n140. Works a treat in my Parker Hale and Lorraine's Remy

al4x
let us know how it goes, I'm going to be on the look out for the same rifle fairly shortly always nice to hear a review or two first!
Devon Fox
Can't honestly say that I've noticed any increased recoil with the 100 grainers, but there would be more, of course. I only shoot foxes at a maximum of 150 yards approx. I had 30 Winchester 100gs lurking in the back of the safe - had a blast at some targets on Sunday - they do kick a little bit more - however I had previously only used lighter rounds but I made some of my best groups ever with them, so I will stick with the heavier rounds for now perhaps my Tikka just likes 'em better? garyb
Your Tikka is most probably a 1 in 10 twist - so actually it should prefer lighter <100grn bullets The remingtons are better suited to 100 grain as they have a faster rate of twist. NorfolkPoacher
let us know how it goes, I'm going to be on the look out for the same rifle fairly shortly always nice to hear a review or two first! Were you talking to me or the chap with the Tika? if you were talking to me then i bloody love my rem!. I have yet to see another 22" stainless fluted barrel in .243 with the composite stock. It shoots and handles really well, very easy to manoeuvre and the wildcat mod adds a bit of weight to the front to reduce muzzle flip. in my opinion and for my ability its really accurate (300 yard fox no prob) using 75gr BT i shot four out of four foxes in my first outing!! without a mod it is a really nice weight for woodland stalking, the action is solid and smooth as with the safe. the only negative in my opinion is the lack of a drop floor plate for the 5 shot integral magazine. so every bullet has to enter and leave the breech, which is a bit fiddly, they say the lack of a floor plate ingreases ragidity. In my personal opinion and for my needs i give it 9/10. I shoot better with this then my standard rem 700 .223. hope my rambling helps, Dave
al4x
yep definitely you as I also get on really well with my .223 remi Integral magazine sounds interesting putting it mildly, the drop floor plate I find the worst thing about mine as it can be fiddly but fundamentally with a centrefire its not like you need to reload in the field often, so I do put up with it. Fingers crossed when i find one I'll get on as well with it.
