mr smith Posted October 27, 2010 Report Share Posted October 27, 2010 I have a red fault light flickering now and again the past couple of days and i've no idea what it refers to.It's on the the line of lights oil then batt then ?.It looks like perhaps a silencer or cat with four lines rising from it,i would look at the owners manual but it didn't come with one and as it's a jap import i doubt i'd understand it. mudpatten Posted November 3, 2010 Report Share Posted November 3, 2010 I hate to have to say this but a similar problem with mine turned out to be the engine management chip on the way out. The light came on more and more frequently with the engine running correspondingly rougher. Having unleashed the completely unreasonable,screaming banshee terrorist ( you can`t negotiate with terrorists) aka the wife, on the staff in the dealership from whence it came, they eventually agreed to replace it free of charge before any of them got hurt. Its either because the vanes in the cat are blocked (good thrash needed to clear them out is always worth a go) or more likley, the pre-cat O2 sensor has given up. The result of this can lead to too much unburnt fuel making its way into the cat. With a defective O2 sensor the engine goes in to a default mode which may mean, given a few other parameters slightly out from other worn yet not blown sensors, that too much fuel is being injected. The result is some unburnt fuel in the exhaust gas whcih is being burnt up in the cat; therefore a very hot cat. Get an auto sparky to plug it in, should show up right away. If you do get the cat replaced, and assuming you have enought funds, I would reccomend you change the O2 sensor just as a precaution so that it does not *****r up the new cat if it was that at fault. ATB Yep thats the one.Thinking(hopefully)it's a dodgy senor or conection as it was showing from cold start this morning for a few seconds and it's never on for long a few seconds and flickers as well. TVM Ah, in that case yes, sounds like a doggy connection or temp sensor. Easy enough to check once you get under the car. Atleast its easy enough on those cars! Hopefully its not the cat! Paul223 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Share Posted November 4, 2010 get it plugged in and check the live data for pre and post cat o2 volatges and get the gasses checked, could be either sensor going wrong bumping the fueling up, and also check the exhaust for leaks, a small air leak pre sensors will do they same thing (increase fueling) and should show up in a gas test , the cat would be the last thing to change when you know all the rest are on spec Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
