Lez325
I have lots of rape over my shoots- no sign of any Woodies on it yet though- and I have a look every day Maybe we need a bad frost to encourage them :Les
Fisherman Mike
Numbers definately down Nationally 2008/9 breeding pairs down 13 % early census returns suggest perhaps 20% or more 2009/10. We are all doing our jobs too well As Cranfield rightly says they are in the woods....Staple diet for Autumn/Winter birds... Mast, Acorns, IVY, Haws, Holly. Also unusually large numbers reported in Spain, Portugal and big flocks sighted on radar heading south... Hard Winter ahead

Dangerous Brian
Just been out today with a few decoys. Very little in the way of pigeons moving about but plenty of crows. Only managed one which was full of hawthorn berries. Probably have to wait a couple of weeks until the natural food dries up.
caeser
Do Wood Pigeon migrate ? Wood pigeons are naturally migratory birds in the rest of the world, but apparently for some strange reason, in Great Britain they are sedentary, that is ,they don't migrate. They may be small numbers in the south that will migrate, but in general the answer is 'no'.
kyska
Went out yesterday and saw just about zip on the woodie front. Loads of rock doves in large flocks, but no woodies, I can't have shot them all, there were thousands a few weeks back.
UKPoacher
Went out yesterday and saw just about zip on the woodie front. Loads of rock doves in large flocks, but no woodies, I can't have shot them all, there were thousands a few weeks back. They might be still harvesting hawthorn berries. There were hundreds on grass paddocks in the deer pens picking up windfalls yesterday. Another week and they should start hitting the rape. Look out around the full moon period when we can expect frosts. That could send them after your crops.
