M.A.Gnun
GREAT MORNING OUT TODAY GUYS -WAS AT BISLEYs short siberia range with a buddy -both took our 17 hmrs both cz 452 varmint ,his 16 inch mine 20 inch barrels -went through over a hundred rounds a piece and about £15 worth of shoot n c targets -i had to zero mine and he has knocked his scope during the week and boy was his zero out too ! didnt take long before we were both hitting 2 inch targets constantly -shooting from a bench with bipods -eventually i ran out of hmr rounds and had to switch to my .22lr savage mk11 - i had some hypervelocity rounds (remington yellow jackets)so i sqeezed of 40 or so of thenm until the siren sounded for lunch and that was our 2 hrs up -guys if you live near enough or are prepared to travel this is shooters heaven ,black powder guys booming away, 6.5 rounds that the boom goes right through you even with defenders on (must be worn at all times ! thats sounds mildly familuar ) . you must already be a full member of a club to join bisley but boy is it worth it -the camp itself is a military training ground ,but has r.f.d sites and some cafes -they also do an open day twice a year for allcomers but you must book your places as soon as because they go very quickly -you can choose what you want to shoot -shotguns , 223 - 6.5 -hmr the list goes on . last time i was there i was privalaged to have fired an original henry martini ! how our boys ever fired them standing ! is beyond me :o Edited November 19, 2010 by hmr-savage
the running man
What distance my excited friend? I've shot 200yrds with my .17 cz 16in varmint, with cci 20 gr fmj,aim for 12oclock where the black meets the white and u should hit the red scoring disc each time (wind allowing) I understand its all lanes in use at short siberia now,at 100 yrds? All to usher in more cash I suspect.shame 200 is quite nice there in summer.
fenix
I was shooting on Short Siberia on Saturday. According to the marker next to us it will be 100 yards only next year, there will be 200 yard shoots on century, think he said alternate weeks. Dunkield
That's bad news, as it stands you can book 100 & 200 on short siberia for half a day, will they do that under the new setup I wonder. I have never shot century, but I don't liek the feeling of people firing longer distances from behind me. While we are discussing Bisley, is there a range you can hire by the hour for zero'ing a centrefire?
the running man
Yes the zero range! .........you're supposed to buy the zero target, but people have there own copy's printed off ready, and just go on said range. As for the century thing,I agree it looks dangerous but in actual fact those shooting would have to swing a hell of a ways over in order to shoot you (200 mil rule its called) just remember to enter you're firing point from the very back of century walking down you're lane and not willie nilly across other peoples! As this causes problems!
Dunkield
What distance is the zero range? Ok I found it 71 feet 7 inches, not a lot of use really.
fenix
They do list hourly prices for ranges, it isn't an option I was aware of. http://www.nsc-bisley.co.uk/common/files/rangeoffice/RangesMarkersCharges.pdf
Dunkield
Thanks, I will give them a call I don't want to spend £30 odd just to check a rifle which is probably OK anyway.
John_R
What distance is the zero range? Ok I found it 71 feet 7 inches, not a lot of use really. They supply a target which is meant for .308 target guys. It has an aiming point, and a series of marks to correlate to longer ranges. I only used that range once when I found my scope had shifted through me not tightening the rings enough, while the rest of the guys were on 1000 yards. Vince Green
You are supposed to check your zero on the zero range before going onto the longer ranges. Its your responsiblity to ensure you don't put any over the top. Now a diciplinary offence. I know a lot of poeple still don't Actually, you have to be a member of the NRA to shoot at Bisley unless you are shooting on an official club shoot with an affiliated club. Members of an affiliated club can't go down on their own to shoot. Edited November 22, 2010 by Vince Green
Dunkield
You can shoot there as a member of an affiliated club on your own, I have booked dozens of targets through BASC (who are an affiliated club)
the running man
ive never seen anyone who actully bought a zero target, they just go in there and do it! Edited November 22, 2010 by the running man

There was a time, not that long ago, when a member of an affiliated club could book a a range just by showing a membership card but that was stopped when the certification process came in. Not their rules apparantly, the MOD's. According to the NRA Journal people are getting turned away but from my observations on the ranges there is still some tightening to be done. Actually its no big deal to become an individual member of the NRA. There are many benefits and one of them is free membership of the Bisley SC (the NRA's own club) All my group of shooting friends are now individual members of the NRA as well as members of our club. IMO one of the benefits of being a BASC member is I don't need to be a member of a shooting club. There was a time when I would have been at Bisley every other week, but I probably only go 3 times a year now, as I find paper punching boring - 2 of those days will be at the BASC running boar/deer days. Dekers
You are supposed to check your zero on the zero range before going onto the longer ranges. Members of an affiliated club can't go down on their own to shoot, in principle that is correct but if the club books the lane for a member they can shoot!
