SilentKill
Well ordered my new CZ 455 Thumbhole Lam Rifle should be in early December..... Now what scope do i go for? I'm thinking of getting something reasonable. Because of the Flat trajectory of the .17hmr i was thinking of getting a fixed mag scope something like a 8x56. Like the look of the Schmidt and Bender 8x56, gets good reviews for lamping etc any thoughts.
seeker
For some sensible thoughts on fixed mag try this .. http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/ChoosingScope.asp
al4x
get a variable with an HMR in daylight you want more than 8X I've a 4-16 on mine and regularly wind it up, a fixed 8x56 is fine on a stalking rifle but you are shooting at much bigger targets

You will probably want to shoot at rabbits etc at distances of 100+yards, so I would go for a higher zoom magnification scope. You don't need to spend £100's either, to get a decent one. Beardo
4-16x50 is my choice, usually lives on 12, but handy going either way
varmit
After trying several high mag variable scopes on my hmr {expensive learning curve) I have now settled on a S&B 8x56 and dont find myself wanting at any sensible hmr range. I would take quality optics over high mag every time. Weather you go for a fixed or variable my advise would be to buy the best you can afford, quality optics are a real eye opener if you excuse the pun atb Ian
bennyblanco
I have just received a fixed 10X that will be fitted to the HMR to replace the 3-12X swat that has been on for a while. I seem to use 6-8X most of the time for lamping but get messed up when I have no idea what mag the scope is on if I have been fiddling, I went to a fixed 7.5X on the centrefire but have gone for 10X on the HMR due to odd long shot in daylight. You seem to get a lot more glass for your pound with fixed mag scopes too and its one less thing to go wrong IMO.
