Thanks in advance Lee
HW682
I have got both... a plain green Ram and an APG Montanna. The Ram was bought for club game days and only gets used a couple of times a year. It is probably better made & more hard wearing than the Montanna. However, I would find it too warm and bulky most of the time. Last season didn't use it at all because shirt sleeves and a vest were enough when walking about. The Montanna gets used more, usually just the outer layer which is more than enough for ME most of the time. When stationary in a hide I add the wind/water proof membrane if needed. Be aware that with the fleece, you have to turn it inside out to zip it into the coat as a liner. So if for example you had been wearing the fleece on it's own and it started to rain - if you turned it inside-out you would then have the wet side next to you. I would just put the rest of the coat over the fleece and keep them separated. As someone pointed out in a previous thread, the Montanna pockets are outside the liner and so would get wet in heavy rain. I can't remember whether the Ram pockets are lined or not. Hope this helps. HW682 One more thought, regarding the under-arm vent zips (my number one priority when buying a jacket). On the Ram the zip goes right through everything except a mesh liner so they are good and effective. On the Montanna the zips are only in the outer layer - not the membrane and/or fleece so they wouldn't be as effective when "fully loaded". Fisherman Mike
I have had several Deer Hunter jackets over the years including the Montana & the Ram but have just gone back to the old faithfull Barbour principly because Ive had Zip problems with all of them. The "build" quality is much better in the Barbour. Ive got two perfectly good jackets at home which require new zips but there is no service or repair outlets for Deerhunter Clothing in the UK it seems. I contacted them directly but didnt get much help.

stokie
I have the Ram which I have had for 3 years . They are good coats but do suffer from damp pockets when it rains . I have also had a broken toggle on the main zip . I contacted the UK importers on 2 occasions and they said they would send me a new toggle free of charge . They never arrived . You pay your money and take your chance

southdowns_stalking
I have had a Deerhunter Ram Jacket for the last 3 years or so. Very imprressed on a cold winters morning, its VERY warm and the wind does not cut through it. Yes it is a bit big a bulky but i have got used to that now. The only down fall is like a couple of others have said if its chucking it down the pockets can get damp/wet. Apart from that no problems, would give it 8.5/
Beardo
i've had the Ram Jacket and Trousers for a few years now - no complaints from me, yeah if it is seriously heavy rain the outside pockets do get a bit wet, but there are inside ones as well. HDAV
I recently bought one these... browning-hydrofleece-jacket (as link was removed it was from Brecon Retail which is the ONLY place i have seen them online, for a very reasonable £95 delivered) been shooting in it twice, great and since the cold snap have worn it daily since it is super warm, well designed, enough pockets without so many you forget where things are a nifty internal belt type thing and comfy adjustable cuffs! Not had it out in a down pour yet but feels like it will perform well, detachable hood is good quality too. chrispti
Some of the differences are; The montana has a detachable Deer-Tex® membrane, detachable fleece jacket, extra shoulder width, extra long back. http://www.deerhunter.dk/Default.aspx?ID=435&ProductComp=1965&ShopGroupID=1349 http://www.deerhunter.dk/Default.aspx?ID=435&ProductComp=1966&ShopGroupID=1349 I have a Smallville jacket, Iv worn it in some torrential rain on the foreshore and out on the marsh. Kept me dry as a bone, I highly recommend them

Dan_Smiff
I bought a Ram last winter (for £90 in the sportsman and I've just seen them in there on offer for £150 odd!!). Very pleased with it for stalking and cold nights lamping - got a real drenching in it one night and it kept the water out well considering it's soft make up. Love all the pockets/features and the fit is good. I'm only glad I bought it when I did having seen how much they want for them now!
