hi all. me and the wife have been thinking about the future and have both thought about getting another dog in a year and a half to 2 years. undecided on weather to get a lab or another springer. we defonatly want a bitch though do you guys who have given me advice think ishould leave it longer or would this be enough time?

as most of you know i have been trainning my current spaniel and all has been going very well of recent so if we did get a bitch it would be around him and possably breed with the both of them in the very distant future. what do you guys think? as i am getting a earfull of the future mother inlaw with how cruel it would be and so on. and want to know what you guys think before i bury her in her own garden lol. thanks for your help guys. :good:

are yo happy with the training of your dog?

if so and you have the time to give another dog why not get one when the time is right?.only thing i have to ask,why get a lab bitch if your thinking of breeding her with your spaniel?.personally i'd either get another spaniel or keep a lab away from your dog when in season.

but thats only my opinion and you free to do whatever you fancy :good:

ps bury her in the dark :yp:

its undecided really on a lab or spaniel. personally i want a spaniel but the misses has seen a litter of drakesheads that the farmers daughter breeds from the shoot and she likes the idea of a nice laid back dog that she can have in the house and not destroy anything. were i love me spaniels the same woman also breeds spaniels and has coverd 1 of her bitches so waiting for the call to say she had a litter so we can go have a look and see what the pups are like and then we will have a better idea. :good::hmm:

Or get the bitch done? As pegleg said, if you want another dog and have the time and facilities to look after two why not? 2 or 3 years between them is the ideal gap IMO.

I love my spaniels, but have just got a lab dog pup.

I have bitches at the moment, one has been spayed, one not but she will be getting done after her next season as I will not breed from her, you can buy good stock, generally better than you could breed yourself so why bother IMO.

I won't have the dog done for no good reason.

The pup will be crated in the house over the winter, I like them house trained before they go into the kennel, it makes for a cleaner dog in the kennel. Then he will be kennelled next to the bitches, but not in the same kennel as that is just asking for him to be pestering them.

HEADACHE mixing dogs and bitches i took an old cocker dog in when a friend needed help to house him he(the dog) wrecked the run chewed a hole in the kennel door and got through a woven mesch fence to get to a spaniel and a terrier.I thought the old *** was past it  cost me earache from her inndoors and helped my local vet to get rich.So if you do mix them the be sure you can kennel them far away from each other.PLUS YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN THE DOG MATURES HE WILL PROBABLY WANT TO BE TOP DOG AND YOU MAY HAVE SOME KENNEL FIGHTS TO DEAL WITH .To make my life easy i only have bitches but this is only my take on the subject .atb.
