Boy was this value for money

Since joining this forum Ive been keeping an eye out for a driven days shooting to come available local to me and at the right price.

Although I have my brothers land to shoot on, alone, I quite fancied meeting some like minded people.

I did get one invite off someone on here who I dont wish to name, but at what I thought was to high a price for just a days shooting, and after reading some of their past posts, it turned out they had been booted from two shoots in succession so passed on it.

Anyway this past week I was put intouch with someone who offered me an half day on pheasants for just £40, no set number to be shot.

So today I went with open mind, and what a absolute cracking day it turned out to be, apart from the weather.

This is only a small shoot but what a cracking bunch of guys they are, making me feel very welcome from the offset.

They only had a small number of beaters but boy do they put in the effort to put birds over the guns and their dogs are a credit to them.

The total bag was 42 pheasant, 11 duck & 3 pigeon from 7 guns.

I shot 10 pheasant & 2 duck at no extra cost, now thats value for money in my book.

The funny thing was they had never heard of Pigeon watch and it became topic of the day, with me explaining what great information you can get on here, and that you can even have a laugh reading posts when things get a bit heated.

A few of them seemed really interested and said they would be having a look, so maybe there will be an influx of new members on here in the next week or so.

Over all I had a great day, met some very like minded people, and didnt feel like Id been ripped off for my money.

I parted thanking each and everyone, including beaters for a very enjoyable day, left my number with the shoot boss advising him Id be willing to take any more days he as available.

I also took the numbers of a couple of lads which I wil try and get some pigeon shooting for in the near future on my brothers place. :good:

Excellent value, and you filled your boots.

However at around £6 per bird depending on how you do the maths, the shoot is only sustainable if they are shooting birds that they have'nt reared, as I can't see how the numbers can stack otherwise.

None the less you enjoyed the day, which is what shooting is about.

could be wild birds, could just be an exceptional day and they usually shoot a dozen or so there are lots of factors at play. We're looking at setting up a shoot in the not so distant future and reckon we can do birds at that sort of cost. But there is no keeper, no land cost, entirely DIY with birds bought in as day olds and when you get the vet meds at cost, cover will go in for the cost of the seed, food will be the poorer quality wheat and we won't put down that many birds. We also have decent shoots round us so will gain birds so our shooting is likely to be round that sort of price. Without knowing the circumstances of the shoot its hard to comment,
