Why are larger F Stop? Would that increase the focal area?

Why are larger F Stop? Would that increase the focal area? Thanks for the reply Paul. I have attached a little into on F Stop. Not that I know a great deal myself. I am still learning from my mistakes and I make a few  I tend to shoot with a low F Stop to throw the BG out of focus to emphesive what I want the viewier to see and stand out. Also faster shutter. Hope this helps. Regards GG Edited December 10, 2010 by GREENGRASS

I am hoping for some early morning sunshine over the weekend to get out and try it in some decent light (and experiment with my newly acquired aperture knowledge). If I get any half as good as some of your posts I will be more than happy!
