A good start is to fill in your profile so other forum members who might be able to help have an idea of who you are and where you are based :good:

made my own shot in 70s piece of angle iron blanked of each end and drilled in the v with small holes put a rod of one end so angle iron is about 3 foot above bucket of water .get angle iron hot so molten lead does not stick tip in v of angle. vary hight from water till lead droplets form round in water. mix old car tyre lead weights to make lead harder you can get them from tyre repaires for a drink

0.45mm gives you about 6/7 depending on lead type temp and depth in pan

As above, more lead in pan runs faster/smaller but could turn to string.

You will have good days and bad days, on a good day run as much as you can, on a bad day pack it in.

Warmer the weather the better no wind better still.

The main thing is your lead, forget the wheel wieghts as most are now Zink, dont mix with you good lead as it will cause problems.

MElt your lead, mix a bit of beeswax in and stir, candle wax works also and helps clean your lead so not blocking your droppers.

Watch you coolant temperature, as it gets hot your shot will deteriate.

Wear a set of goggles and gloves, molten lead BURNS. JOHN

The above is about right,

I bought a Shotmaster Shotmaker off the well known auction site, at first I though I had bought a pup. But then reading as much as I could find and a bit of help from people on here it is great. I have only made about 50 kilos of shot so far but it has saved me a fortune.

The real key I have found is the preparation of the lead. Using the beeswax as described above and making ingots (I use a bun tin) Once you have a load of ingots then the shot making is easy.

OR. Forget the drippers.

Make pan out of steel sheet, about 20 guage, drill holes in bottom front and weld run plate behind them.

Secure with 3 threaded rods to coolant can, one iether side at front, one middle back.

Washer welded to dropper to slot over said rods with nut below this gives you fine adjusting for drop and angle.

It works well and less piddling about cleaning droppers. john

You mmmmmmmmmm it ill play it  . depends how you apply the heat, blow lamp underneath to keep running temperature and lead melted in large seperate pot and ladled in.

I havn/t measured the thickness of metal, just a guess, may beright but will check,

But the shot is equally as good as any Littleton or Black max and i have had them both. I havnt dropped 50/60 kl i would measure my shot dropping by the ton, but it does count up after 50 years of it. john

Mag357 and myself had a lead run a couple of days ago we knocked out over 110 kilo of No6 shot in 4 hrs..

Today it was dried and put through the mixer then sieved to get out any scrap lumps of lead then we bottled it up and ended up with 109.5 Kilo

our best run yet with less then a 1/2 kilo of scrap.. :good: :good: :good:
